Eating out

Since finding out I have diabetes I have avoided social events that include eating out. My friends all want me to go out for an Indian Friday night. Am I making a big deal out of this? I already know that eating this sort of food spikes my blood sugar. I am a total foodie and wouldn't have thought twice about eating a takeaway for two followed by a huge Piece of cake
Now it just feels like hard work like it's taken all the enjoyment out of it!
If I'm good I can keep my blood sugars at an ok level but it depresses me to see a high reading.

I eat indian (takeaway) food sometimes. You need to choose wisely but I think it can still be enjoyed.

Avoiding the cake doesn't mean you have to avoid having a social life. Try to remember that (I have to remind myself too).

Last weekend, my fiancé and I went to our friends' birthday party. They ordered pizza for everyone (20-25 people) and ordered a salad for me instead. Most of the guys drank beer while I had two glasses of wine. I had a blast and no one gave me a hard time the entire night.

I would have loved to be able to eat the cake and pizza with everyone else, but it just wasn't worth taking insulin. Plus, it's not as if your discipline isn't rewarded in other areas of your life. It's pretty hard to get fat eating salads.

I am on gliclazide twice a day. I was on insulin for the first week as my blood sugar was so high but they stopped it. In the beginning I was quite strict with myself but have slipped slightly resulting in slightly higher readings in the evening I struggle with self control lol

Take Torqpenderloin's advice. I did not, and felt a real fool clinging to the banister rail in a museum having climbed two flights. The meal was good though. My better half helped me down the stairs to the cafe where I recovered, sort of.
You really have to take great care what you eat, but it does get easier as time passes. There are many alternative foods which will satisfy your needs. Us foodies must stick together and eat roast beef and drink red wine.!!!!!
Have fun and enjoy your life.

Depends on what you eat. As I'm following LCHF I just have a lamb tikka starter and a chicken tikka main course with a mushroom bahji. Doesn't cause me a significant spike.

@bulkbiker has the right idea on an indian- i always go for the dry curries like tandoori mix or shaslick .
my BG's stay pretty flat all evening on this sort of meal
