Eating Timing confusion

hi all.

I need a sense check around eating patterns.

I work a 9-5 type job (bit flexible with hours) and get confused about eating timings.

I leave my house at 7 so no time to cook and eat really. I like to eat breakfast at 9 when the canteen opens as I get a good low carb breakfast (still have to inject).

Then I don't like to eat lunch whilst still have morning insulin on board so I don't double up, so I eat at 1pm. Then I usually get dinner by about 6 which is a 5 hour gap (public transport dependent). So meals nicely spaced and works very well for my control.

Thing is ppl at work eat lunch at 11.45am which is early, only 2.45 after breakfast and 6+ Hours before tea.

Problem being I'm tired of eating lunch on my own in canteen. (Violins?).

Any advice?

No violins from me - we are all on the same team.:)

It is a really interesting one--friends and disrupt your established pattern or eat Billy no mates at insulin time so to speak.

I think I would opt to prepare some food for breakkie the night before so you could eat on the bus perhaps.

Crust less quiche and my own special ham wraps spring to mind as low/no carb brekkies.

1 slice thin ham rolled around philadelphia cheese with either a gherkin pickle or a spring onion in the middle.

I've bought a muffin tin and crack an egg inside, give it a mix and then add cheese and ham. It takes 10 mins in the oven to cook so I do this as I get dressed. They are great cold as they look like muffins and taste amazing... Might be something to eat on the go that is low carb?ImageUploadedByDCUK Forum1423687538.168817.jpgImageUploadedByDCUK Forum1423687557.617036.jpg

Sometimes I add cream too... Bit extravagant but worth it!!

I guess it comes down to whether you value 7am breakfast and lunch with your peers. Or a simpler morning and a 9:00 breakfast

It's more the large gap between lunch and dinner really if I eat at 11.45 not 1 :-/

6 hours isn't that long Emmotha, I'm sure there are many of us who go this length of time or longer, you could always have a small snack in-between if you get hungry.

I would get in the habit of skipping breakfast, or grabbing something small to go. That would allow you to eat lunch whenever you'd like!

I have never really had any issues with doubling up, because if you think about it you are still digesting the first meal and would still need that insulin, and eating more would still need more insulin so there shouldn't be a problem right?

Is your meal timing based on your insulin levels, or your hunger levels?

A mid day snack wouldn't be to hard if its a sugar issue, or even a hunger issue. Just keep some crackers and cheese at work? or some candies in your pocket for a boast!
