So, I got a BFP on Tuesday and couldn't be any happier albeit very very scared!

I went to see my doc on Wednesday who has referred me to the high risk clinic and diabetes specialists but was just wondering how long it took for someone to get in contact with all you other mummy's/mummy's to be?

Should I be expecting a call in a couple days, weeks?!

I just want to see someone asap to put my mind at ease slightly!

I phoned my DSN as soon as I got the BFP @Ellie_Wilko I was then offered an appointment the next day. You could phone yours and see what they say :)

Congratulations! Don't be scared - it's hard work but perfectly do-able :)

I havnt got a DSN! Everyone's been pretty slack since I've been diagnosed last year and I don't really have anyone on hand to contact hence why I went to my gp!

My colleague is also diabetic and has exactly the same issue - think it must just be the area we live in.

I'll have to sit tight and await a call from someone xx

@Ellie_Wilko If you have the number of your local hospital's Diabetes Centre, you could give them a call and explain the situation. Even if you don't have the specific number, you can ring the main hospital number and ask to be put through to the Diabetes Centre. There's usually one or more DSNs responsible for pregnant ladies, and my consultant gave me the number to ring as soon as I got the BFP :)

(this will be the hospital your consultant is at normally)

Edited to add that the DSNs were fantastic and sorted the clinic for me, as well as providing excellent support. They know what they're doing and it was a relief to get on a 'well-oiled machine'

Ok thanks so much, I'll give the diabetic centre a call! Hopefully they can point me in the right direction x

Congratulations it was my dsn I called first too! I saw her within 2days and I attended the antenatal clinic within a week of finding out, I've also just got my 8 week scan appointment through! For the 17th! in my local area the diabetic clinic liaise with the gynaecologist to organise scans, I think each area can be different! So excited for u! When do u estimate you are due? X

Congratulations @Ellie_Wilko

I also called my DSN first but like azure said call the local hospital if you don't have one already and they should be able to put you through :)

It is nerve wracking and at times fairly tough with bgs but I'm at 33weeks now and still coping :)

Congratulations to you to!! Oh so I definitely need to get onto someone then, it's been since Tuesday and not heard a thing!

The docs worked it out as being due 8th January so would be 5 weeks tomorrow.

Is 8 weeks when they do the first scan for us then? xx

That's what my consultant does, I don't know if it's the same for everyone, but I think we all get scanned early! That's exciting to have someone due a couple of weeks after me to keep in touch with! have you noticed any change in your sugars yet? X

Scans vary. I was offered an early scan but refused and waited until the 12 week one :) It'll depend on what your clinic offers and what you decide :)

Oh I think I'll take up the chance of the first scan they offer to put my mind at ease!

I've put my basal up by 20 units which has stabilised it for the time being but imagine this will be changing all the time. I had my hba1c done on Thursday so looking forward to getting the results Monday. I was 6.9 in Feb so hoping to be in the 6's again.

What have your bloods been like @Sarahkylie88? xx

I don't have a choice, and I don't like the fact it's called a foetus viability scan but it's an opportunity to see baby early do I'll take it! And it says it's an ultrasound on the stomach, but could be a vaginal one of needs me! I'm hoping very much it's a stomach one!! Despite my nerves about it I'm quite excited! X

My bloods have gone up a bit, especially in the morning, my insulin carb ratio has changed already too, as they like you to be below 7.8 one hour after your meal. I have increased my basal rate in the morning too, and the higher rate starts at 2am now rather than 3am. I had one hba1c done 14th April which was 6.6% and one done on the 3rd of May which was 6.8%

Sugars seem to 6-7 in the morning and I know they should be below 5.7 but it's a real struggle!

How are you getting on? X X X

Oh my gosh fingers crossed for a stomach ultrasound! We're going to have to "bare it all" at some point but it still doesn't sound vey dignified!

I've between 6-7 in the morning but am still struggling with the after meal spike so need to work on that. Hopefully my hba1c will be ok Monday xx

It often is a vaginal scan if you have the early one, ladies.

I wasn't so much bothered by the indignity as the poking about early in pregnancy so that's why I refused. I didn't worry about viability because I realised that even if I'd known my pregnancy was viable there's plenty to worry about all the way through, and when you're actually a mum. That's all part of parenthood :)

I haven't got a choice, I've got to have one, it's part of the consultant in unders stipulations! I prob could refuse if I pushed it but I'm going to go for it. It does say on my letter that it should be stomach but will be vaginal if required! I'll let you ladies know on the 17th I guess! x

That's quite shocking to me - being made to have a medical thing like that. I've never heard of anything similar.

Yeah they didn't give me the option, just said that the consultant in under likes you to be booked in and scanned by 8 weeks? Oh well I'll see how things go with it... X

I'm sure you'll be fine :) Seeing your baby for the first time is very moving - take tissues for any happy tears!

Hey sweeties, I believe they can do a belly scan at 9 weeks onwards anything before that has to be a vaginal one I had two done one at 5 weeks and one at 7... Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! Was so lovely to see the pregnancy sac and yolk (sounds like chicken) that early to now seeing a baby xxx
