effect of today's food on tomorrow's readings

Go easy timo,
I'm on a road trip in a tour bus called "Good Control" and EVERYONE'S invited along for the ride.

We were all ignorant once,
but we stopped giving clever answers
and started asking wise questions

To go back to the original question; I am becoming increasingly convinced that my waking blood sugar has a lot to do with my total carb intake and activity level the day before. I think I need more basal insulin when I've had more carbs/less exercise, and because I don't adjust my basal, since I'm on lantus and adjustments don't work that well, I get high sugars when this happens. I haven't got enough evidence to prove it yet, but it seems to work that way for me.

hi l0vaduck,

If you're still on a single dose of lantus, then you should try splitting the
dose morning and night (50/50).
I tried it and I couldn't believe how well it worked.
No morning lows and no evening tail-off(highs).
The only downside is the extra jab each day - but what price can you put on good control?

all the best.

Thanks McCadbury, but I already do split the dose.

Lantus lasts well over 24 hours in me anyway, but with the full dose at night I was having massive night hypos!
