Morning all.

Yesterday as usual I had 2 scrambled eggs and a slice of Burgen for my breakfast.

I have eaten eggs in one form or another for years and have never experienced any problems.

About an hour later I was violently sick.

My Mum came for a visit and I explained that I had been really sick and she asked what I had eaten.

I told her and she said "You eat too many eggs and they can have Salmonella in them."

I haven't eaten today yet and I am aware that I now feel a bit scared to eat eggs again which I know is silly but I don't want to be sick again.

Any advice please ??

Google it but her information is years out of date. If you did have salmonella, you'd be very ill for many days.

+1 and it stems back to the Edwina Currie days if I remember correctly...I believe eggs with the red lion stamp should be pretty safe if cooked properly (well I eat tons of them and I've turned out ok!)

I love eggs and haven't been ill from them. What is Burgen? Maybe that made you ill. Did you mean burgers? You have to be very carefull with meats and proteins, if unsure leave a bit longer rather than undercook, just to be safe.

apparently there is salmonella in 1 in 60,000 eggs and 90% of people that have it have mild symptons not needing to go to the doctors, so if im right you have a 1 in 600,000 chance of being very ill by eating raw eggs let alone a cooked one, I have read that in a cook book I think it was 1001 low carb recipes ill go ave a look if anyone disagrees :)

edit: ts an American cook book so I dunno if that effects what I said or not

The last time I had this problem was when I was trying out yet another statin since all of the others had side effects. The side effect of this one seemed to be gastro enteritis. I ended up in the physio's since another statin seized up all my muscles.

My mum has a livery farm (horses ye I know you know ) but she also keeps hens of many different and usually rare breeds which have full run of the farm . So at this point I am giong to be very very smug and say with out any shadow of a doubt I get the best eggs in the world  they are fantastic but have unfortunately spoilt me and could eat a shop bought one now as they tast really bad or just dont tast at all. But getting back to your problem it could have been an egg on the turn . Its dead easy to check just fill a pint glass with water and pop the egg in if it doesn't sink immediately or iindeed at all or takes a slow decent then the liklihood is that its not good.

now bare in mind I come from a housing estate and chickens running round is weird for me, we did a job in a house the other day that had chickens and they gave me some fresh eggs, I couldn't bring myself to eat them I had this (irrational im sure) fear that I was going to crack them open and find a half developed baby chick and if I did I could never eat another egg again, so I threw them away and ate the shop ones hehe

Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee sacrilege . You heathen if there is one thing I am .ore passionate about than jellyits eggs . An egg that has a forming foetus will start floating and not sink properly.

We have 15 chickens and I couldn't eat shop bought ever again either! But we don't have a cockerel! Therefore I KNOW I'm not eating no chicks... I couldn't eat fertilised eggs I'd feel too bad lol

Sorry that you had a bad experience from some kind of food that your clever stomach thought best to remove away from your body in the quickest way possible.
Now, I would like to know where you bought the eggs and bread from, were they within there use by dates. Could there be something else you had that may take the blame.

You might think what point am I getting to, ( it is easy I have been brainwashed to reading clues thanks to the great Wee Willie ) I am just trying to find out if the eggs were purchased in Aldi or Tesco.

Hope you are feeling much better and will soon get back to enjoying your lovely eggs. ( I like the floating idea )

I caved in and ate my lovely scrambled eggs with no ill effects.

It is always alarming when I throw up so violently as that is the way my brain haemorrhage started back in 1997 and the many 'fits' I have had since all start the same way. Sickness the collapse. This is why I have a lifeline alarm fitted in my flat and should always wear the push button neck pendant at all times. I keep it next to me on the table next to the sofa....

I buy my free range eggs from Aldi and eat 2 a day at breakfast.
