I have been invited to take part in a research study by Uni of Leicester, De Montfort Uni and Leicester Diabetes Centre via the GP surgery because it has been identified from my medical notes that I am eligible to take part. This should be interesting but I am not expecting anything useful to happen. Am I too cynical?

What is the object of the research? It may be very useful, or it may not be.

@Bluetit1802 The letter says:- Embedding Diabetes Education is looking at the way people with T2 diabetes are offered and attend diabetes education. I think because I only attended one session of the course they want to know why. Bring it on and I will tell them bluntly.

@carol43 - I know a bit about this study, and truly, I would ask you to seriously, seriously consider participating.

As what I know is held under a non-disclosure basis, I can't give you any detail, but the study if very, very important.

They may credit your good result to the information you were given on the one seesion of the course you went to.....

Or maybe, just maybe, they might be interested in the things that werent on the course but should / could have been. After all they are showing some interest in the idea of structured education by DSN’s in the context of differing diatery approaches a la Unwin, Taylor etc.
