Just wanted to give a big shout out to these people and what they do. They are amazing. The ambulance staff saved my life last week. I was extremely ill. They worked on me for ages then blue lighted me to hospital. The staff on the ward were excellent and although didnt know much about diabetes, were willing to learn. When I was well enough they left me with my insulin stuff and loads of snacks incase of hypos.
My experience in hospital was not as bad as I'd been led to believe - these people are wonderful.

By the way I am out of hosp now and doing fine.

!!!! Good tohear that you are doing well. Was it a hypo?

Fantastic to hear that they treated you well too. Bif believer in praise where it is due. Ambulance staff have always been wonderful in my limited experience too

Nah wasnt a hypo. Unconnected to diabetes, altho i did have lowish blood sugar at the time.
I agree - praise where praise is due. I would have died if it wasnt for them. Yet, a week later, here I am at home, not quite 100%, but alive and well, out of hosp, and able to live my life. All thanks to them.

My mum collapsed in the bathroom in november and stopped breathing and her heart stopped too, we live in a village and i really believe that the fast response saved her life. She's only 44.was in hospital for a while unconcious and had memory loss which caused a slight personality change and alot of anger, the staff were very patient with her and very caring in two hospitals so i know exactly what you mean. we should praise the good before we're very quick to tarnish them because of a few bad apples :)

Glad your out and doing well now :D
When i was admitted to hospital just before Christmas with DKA and pneumonia the ambulance staff could not have been better :D Most of the nurses were brillaint to :D

Paula,

Good positive post! :D It's always nice when someone recognises the hard work and dedication our emergency services and hospital staff but in when taking care of our needs.

Good to hear you are OK now Paula :D

Like you I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the paramedics and all the dedicated nurses and doctors at my local hospital.

From A&E to the wards I stayed on to the ICU where I was intubated, my care was 1st class and left me quite emotional at times, there is just no way to thank these people properly, when you owe someone your life it is a very humbling experience IMO

I had great treatment from the paramedics and firemen the other day too. They were all very kind and reassuring. They cut up all my clothes though.

The most terrifying part of it was, when on the ambulance, the paramedic was holding + looking at one of my hands, I thought he was looking at the cuts, then he picked up the other hand, and started tapping at it. The horror I felt when realising what he was doing, preparing to put a drip in, stab at my hand veins, and I was strapped to the spinal board and could not escape, was indescribable. Even writing about it makes me feel sick. Luckily he realised by my reaction it wasn't a good idea. And I overheard him telling the A&E staff about it so they didnt come at me with needles so that was good.

I didn't have to wait long at A&E to be seen, none of this 6 hour wait you hear about. They probably prioritise people strapped to spinal boards though.

It was all needless as it turns out, no broken bones or spine damage so could have just climbed out and walked home, but better safe than sorry!

These posts just goes to show what an amazing job these people do. BUT lets not forget the GPs surgery. I was in desperate need this morning and they had no appointments. The receptionist spoke to my GP and I was seen within 5 mins. After lots of treatment by the GP (I was in ther 45 mins!) I feel a lot better. I did apologise to those waiting  . I now have loads more meds to take   but it saved me going back to the hospital.

ALL the people in the caring proffesion are amazing and I wish there was a proper way of saying thank you. When I am better, i may do some fundraising. Anyone got any ideas of what I could do? Bearing in mind i am disabled!

Paula
