I'm T2 so don't know what to suggest. Perhaps call NHS helpline? Good luck.

NHS direct (0845 4647)

Have some glucose handy, but remember that Lantus works quite slowly, so even a double dose won't drop you that fast.

Lantus does work slowly. Presumably you have a testing kit, so you'll need to compensate as your levels drop. Glucose or Lucozade is good for this if you have some handy but it won't be immediate.

(obviously get NHS Direct to help if they can).

Agreed 100% Get advice, keep checking your levels, if low then fast acting glucose like lucozade, dextro tablets or full sugar coke but not chocalate as it doesn't act fast enough and once your levels are up eat something high carb like bread to keep your levels up for longer as lucozade may not keep your levels up for long.

Azza,

The good news is that it's long acting and not short acting insulin.. so no need to panic

You are going to need to be really careful with your sugars over the next 24 hours... You are going to need to ideally test every hour or so and this is going to have to happen through the night so get your alarm clock ready.. If on your test your blood glucose falls below 6 mmol/l then eat some carbohydrate if its over 9 mmol/l then don't eat and leave it till the next hour.

Its hard to say how much of an effect that is going to have on your sugars but generally you are going to need to double the amount of carbs you need over the next 24 hours without injecting any additional rapid insulin to cover them.

Just Remember.. Test Regularly and Eat Carbs.. if your sugars fall low (below 4 mmol/l) make sure you have dextro's or similar to hand. If possible make sure you have someone with you that knows what to do in the event of an emergency.. if you get concerned then call NHS Direct / Out of Hours GP.. if you are really concerned take yourself to A+E

As it was long acting insulin, make sure you have slow release carbs to soak it up, also making sure you have some fast acting on stand by as well.
As others have said keep testing so you know whats happening.

Just test regularly and make sure you have plenty if glucose to hand. Your sugars will probably be a little unstable the next day or two but you'll be fine. Been there, done that (well levemir rather than lantus) and lived to tell the tale. Try not to worry too much xx

In times like this.... tinned rice pudding works wonders. Just eat 1/3 (third) tin every so many hours according to how it affects your bg levels.

Thank you all so much! I monitered it every hour at night, then it went like this 8.0 6.0 (i had juice and two dextroses, and a cracker) then it went 8.1 10.8 119 12.6 but i didnt want to take novo rapid at this point just incase i did take it twice so i slept for another 3 hours without check in it, then i woke up this morning (half an hour ago) and it was 3.6. so i guess i ll just keep monitoring it every couple of hours?

But should I take Novorapid with lunch and dinner? Or should I just not eat anything with carbs today and just have juice/dextrose when it goes lower?

If I were you I'd just keep on monitoring. I'd still take some Novorapid just reduce the doses.

As for doing two injections of lantus, dobt best yourself up about it. It happens. I usually do my levemir just before bed. If I'm tired I often doubt myself and can't remember whether I've taken it already. It does screw up your levels but they'll settle in a few days. Not sure how long you've been diabetic for but it sounds like this is the first time you've ha this problem?

Hope things settle down soon xx
