I have several !
Hi everyone, i've been on Metformin now for roughly 5 months after a Type 2 diagnosis. Other than frequent trips to the loo, i've been fine. My BS wasn't coming down much until i started lowering my carb intake. However, i was getting some nausea and my diabetic nurse offered Empagliflozin (Jardiance) saying it would also benefit my weight loss. I was rather reluctant to start the medication, i get nervous with new drugs ! After seeing several posts about it being of great benefit for the cardiovascular health of diabetics i'm considering taking it. I'm just wondering if anyone else is taking it with or without metformin and have you have any side effects ?

TIA :)

I haven't taken Jardiance and I wouldn't take it if offered because I don't think the benefits outweigh the risks and side effects. There is no magic bullet with weight loss, it takes hard work through low carbing and sometimes cutting calories as well. Here is some info about Jardiance:

It wasn't the weight loss benefits that had me considering it. It's the cardiovascular benefits that it appears to have. I've already lost a fair bit of weight with my own hard work and although i have a bit to go, i'd do that by continuing with my weight watchers low carb plan. I have a GP appointment for Wednesday, i'll tell him my concerns and get his advice about whether to proceed or not.

Are you sure about the cardiovascular benefits? The article above says there are CV risks with this group of drugs.

Yeah but it was this one that had different effects. I'll post a link for you ;)

Thanks for providing a link. I'm still cautious because the drug is new, and there hasn't been enough time to find out all its effects. The UTIs, thrush, and bone fracture issues would be enough to put me off, and I think the CV benefits can be gained by low carbing and weight loss, which we don't know if the study participants were doing. I guess we will find out over the next few years what this drug is like.
