is it ok for my friend to drink ensure drinks. He was told to drink them to give him some energy. Hes very tired and isnt sleeping well at night. Is this all part of it untill he learns what to do and what not to do.

Hi Raymond,

You don't sound stupid, far from it as you have your friend's interests at heart.

I see from your previous post that you friend has been diagnosed with diabetes but is awaiting a decision as to which type.

There is some information for newly diagnosed that may help him whilst he is waiting.

The tiredness he experiencing could well be because his blood sugars are high. Has he been given a meter and test strips?

Raymond,
Tell your friend to try Mixx Up Sugar Free Stimulation Drink from Lidl. [/b]29p[/b] (definitely pence!) per can. (or 6 for £1.60'ish)

I drink it every morning (I can't stand coffee!) and I can say that it certainly DOES give me a little boost. Don't go overboard with them, though. If I have more than 1 I find I have trouble getting to sleep at night.

he didnt get a test strip.Hes to go back to the doc.His doc sent him into the hospital for blood tests about a week and a half ago. He rang him a couple of days and told him one of the results over the phone. He has an appointment now to go to his doc for the next stages. Hes only starting his journey with diabetes

patch I take it you meant 29p per can not £29

Ray - I think there could be some confusion here. There is also a prescribable product called Ensure Plus - usually from your GP, nurse or dietitian. It is only prescribed in specific conditions as a high calorie/protein supplement. It can also be used in the correct quantity as a complete meal replacement. There are several types but all generally contain quite a lot of CHO - as sugar / glucose so may cause blood glucose levels to rise!
I would suggest your friend gets back to the GP for advice.
