I popped in to grab some groceries this afternoon and silly me didn't check my blood sugar before I went in. The next thing I know I'm going sideways and feeling like I'm going to fall over, shaky and sweating. So I quickly shove some lollies I had on me into my mouth. I get to the checkout and feel absolutely disgusting so in a panic I grab a mars bar (not something I've eaten for probably 20 years). I took 2 bites of it and yuck... I suddenly had a wave of nausea. I was thinking you idiot where did I put my muesli bar that I usually carry on me? I will never grab one of those mars bars again though. I definitely wasn't thinking straight... I was in a supermarket, why on earth didn't I go looking for something else? I just had a knee jerk reaction I guess. Have any of you done this and regretted it? (although I know it's better to treat the hypo than not).

It was mini rice crispie bites for me. I wasn't at 'full hypo', but I'd probably not eaten one in 20 years and was a bit low, so why not? I used to love the things.

Bleurgh! It was so unbelievably sickly sweet that I had to eat another one. Double bleurgh. I'm sticking to Glucotabs.

Yeh I was trying to eat something with low GI carb in it as I was needing to drive home. I waited until I had 6 on my meter. So I had to wait anyhow. But even when I got home I was still feeling sick. My problem is when my sugar drops, it drops quick so when I first tested I was in the 4's but I felt much lower. If I left it just 5 mins or so I probably would've dropped in the 3's and then 2's, etc. I think it's the speed of the drop that makes me really unwell. But that mars bar I will never buy again.... like you said it was sickly sweet.

Was at work many years ago and started to feel low, so popped next door to the local co op. For some reason I bought a bunch of bananas ( 6/7 ) . I then ate all the bananas one after the other. Didn't really get me out of the hypo but was I sick? I was still vomiting 4hrs later, never felt so bad.
Only ever eat one banana at a time nowadays.
Later found out you can get potassium poisoning from eating too many bananas apparently.

The wife has sweeteners in her tea.
I for some unknown reason put them in my cup! Doh!

It was the worstest ever! Yuk! Yuk! Yuk!
Just can't really describe it, I had to brush my teeth my tongue, my gums and still couldn't get rid of the yuk taste!

I'm ever so slightly careful now!

Not a 'yuck' food choice, but I remembering a few years ago eating the entire contents of my mum's biscuit tin and then having to join the family for supper within about half an hour. Was so 'hypover' that it didn't occur to me that I was a) full of biscuits and b) heading towards the 20s (in blood sugar terms). I've always been able to override both hunger and satiety, though, which in diabetes life can be quite useful.

And my husband once had to rush into a shop to get a hypo treatment for me - he ran in saying 'diabetic emergency, I need Ribena', and ran back to me brandishing a carton and a straw, which he encouraged me to drink. I slurped some but then pushed it away, because it didn't taste right. At which point he checked the label - it was the sugar-free one.

He went back in to buy another one - the standard variety - and explained to the shop assistant why he'd come back. 'Well, you did say it was a diabetic emergency!' was the reply. Which actually was very forward-thinking of her!

Poor Mr S! I was 1.7 and found it the funniest thing EVER!

Oh lord what I wouldn't give for a Mars Bar or a Toffee Crisp and it's only been about 5 months, I don't care how long it get's I'll always want one of these. Fortunately I'm not in a position to get hypo's and hope I never will, but you can bet good money either will be the first thing I'd grab for saying that if i'm near pizza then that too

Mom's fruit and grain bars last night when I was low-I hardly ever am but I just did not feel like eating-I promptly got sick and am still recovering today. She loves them.

My favourite at the moment is one Thorntons chocolate... always could eat two but know one is all I need.

I never take anything willingly unless I love it. Thorntons I love.
The things I would never take is glucose tabs..

Hubby got boxes of them for £1 a big box.. Only trouble is they melt in pockets!!

Outside, I have aldi small bars of sour cherry and chilli 85% cocoa. Only takes 1 square...

Will have to find something non melting for summer...

Hi @donnellysdogs . Will it really be necessary to find something that will not melt. For that one week of the year ( if we're lucky) it hardly seems worth the time and trouble
But hey fingers crossed for this year.

Haven't had to do that as I haven't been below 4 yet. But there's so many things I'm having now that I have to check the ingredients because they taste so mega sweet. It's odd because I never thought I ate high sugar things, but now I've cut carbs its making a real difference to what I taste.

I'm pretty sure I didn't mind mars bars when I last ate them... I used to like anything with caramel in it. I can't tolerate it anymore though. That's probably a good thing, but not handy when you're needing to treat a hypo in a hurry.

Sour milk once... & a mass of melted Haribos. Actually I was trying to pick em out singularly but they'd consolidated in the heat of my van.
Loose Fruit pastels in a pocket full of tissue & dog poop bags..
