Hello everyone

I wonder if anyone can tell me where I can find info on everyday meals us diabetics are allowed (especially in relation to weight loss).

There are lots of books out there with fancy menus in them but how about someone telling us the right way to cook bangers n mash or kate and sidney pie?.

I presume we are ok with new potatoes with some cholesterol busting butter on them?

We are not all cordon bleu chefs so perhaps someone can come up with a basics list?.

Thanks. Hope everyone is well

Hi Mrs P.Get yourself one of the carb counting books and then you can create your own everyday recipes.I like Collins Gem carb counter or calorie counter, both are good.with a little homework you can use your everyday recipes, maybe with a change here and there and ,by reducing carbs in your meals ,lose weight at the same time. For instance substitute cauliflower for potatoes in Shepherd's pie.(Fergus's recipe) In the recipe section ,I think. As long as you watch out for sugars and reduce complex carbs to smaller portions you can eat quite a lot of things. If you have a test meter, test before and two hours after a meal to see what effect that meal has had on your blood sugars. If the before and after readings are much the same then you got that meal right. It's a bit trial and error because we all react differently to certain foods.

The very BEST basic cook book is by Marguerite Patten. "Step by step cookery" It's hard to find nowadays, but you can use it and modify. I recently found one ( which is still in the Amazon inventory) called " the low carb long tern lifestyle", which I find excellent Also try the recipes thread on this forum.
I'll work on some basics and put them up.

Hi MrsP.
How did your operation go? Hope everything in now O.K.
Regards, Catherine.

Thank you for all the responses, I will certainly look in the forum recipes and try get one of the Low Carb recipe counters or books.

Catherine, the op was fine thank you. I am just starting to get rid of the pins and needles I was feeling, although of course this could have been caused by the stroke.

Its difficult when my french is so rubbish, to explain my symptoms and not all of the Dr's speak english, but we keep trying :D

Thanks again :)

Hi Cameraman,
Glad you got the book I recommended. It is a really good aid for diabetics.
