Hello all im new to this but hoping someone can help, my son is 8 years old and was diagnosed at the age of 4 we have recently had his insulin changed to levemir and nova rapid insulins 4 injections a day only he is constantly hungry he eats as much as both me and my partner and then is asking for more for example we had some sandwhiches for dinner he had 5 slices of bread made into sanwhiches plus a bag of crisp, pepperami and a cheese string but then wanted something else to eat as he said he was still hungry, he never used to eat this much on the other insulin but by eating so much we are now coming out with really high blood results any help???

Like dragongirl, I am reluctant to offer any advice due to the age of your child. This doesn't seem right that he should be eating such huge amounts of food at such a young age, and I would imagine that this may be effecting his diabetes control. I would try to speak with his diabetes specialist nurse as soon as possible, they may well offer some advice that may help to resolve this issue with your son. Do let us know how you get on and hope all goes well!

thankyou both for your replies i am going to phone the nurses this morn i was just seeing if anyone on here had any suggestions in the mean time, begining to get me down a little bit that he is always hungry to the point he will cry for food so hopefully will get it sorted soon thanks again
just posting a reply have phoned the nurses this morn and she is changing when we give the levemir (currently at 6pm) to breakfast time to see if this helps, she thinks the excessive hunger could be a growth spurt but may want to do some extra test in the near future to make sure as my son also has latent coeliac as well as his diabetes, going to keep in constant contact over the next few days to hope we can resolve the problem together im keeping my fingers crossed that we can, just reading the posts on insulin pumps and wondering if they are a better option altho it sounds like u have to fight to get one
