I need help, friends. Until now, my exercise has mainly consisted of walking for distance. However, I have upped my exercise game to include strength and bodyweight training. I enjoy how I am feeling, but my blood sugar has risen overall since I started these exercises (past few weeks). And, after exercise, I feel like I am having a hypo, even thought it is in normal range.

Has anyone else had experience with this? My FBS was 141 this morning! :arghh: Granted, it comes down during the day, but it is higher after exercise than before. Now, I understand that it has to do with how my body uses the glucose and how it is transporting it to my muscles, but I am looking for advice about how people manage exercise and what they eat. Should I eat beforehand? If so, what are some examples of what you eat?

Thanks for posting this. I also started experiencing my BG going up during exercise. Previously, before starting the ketogenic diet my BG would go down during the same exercise.

Actually, I have just stumbled upon an interesting discussion that explains what you have experienced:
http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=804956

"Intense exercise can work against you in that the muscles will uptake glucose from your bloodstream after you finish the exercise to replace their lost glycogen, this drops the blood sugar and puts stress on the brain, as you experience the effects of hypoglycemia. To some extent having a high level of blood ketones can buffer the effect, but it depends on how easily your adipose cells release their stored fat. Unfortunately the brain still uses some glucose for energy, which is the reason it doesn't like the drop in blood sugar. If you are trying to lose weight or are trying to live in permanently in a ketogenic state, it is best to participate only in low intensity exercise, and be careful with any exercise which might cause a drop in blood sugar, due to the muscles trying to replenish lost glycogen too quickly."
