Since being diagnosed as a type 2 a month or 2 ago, I have been trying to do more exercise. As a result I dusted off a cross trainer exercise machine that I have been using as a clothes horse for the last few years and went to work. I have found it quite enjoyable and quick taxing, but typically after a few weeks of use it has broken down completely and is unusable (booo).

Can anyone recommend a replacement in the £300-£600 price bracket that has a reasonable maximum user weight suitable for a heavy user (fat lad in other words)? Was looking at the York diamond X301.....

A good pair of trainers and a local walking Map is cheap and if you don't have one of ytour own, the loan of a dog. You can volunteer at your local animal shelter.

PS you might need a waterproof in a few weeks time.

Do you really have to use something like that to exercise?
I used to do a step routine which would be so much cheaper and I guarantee is just as taxing!
The STEP is quite cheap to buy in comparison and if you follow a video/CD routine it will keep you going. I can understand that the other suggestions might just be a bit daunting as personally I wouldn't want other people seeing me panting along - very embarrasing when you are overweight.
Keep up the good work and keep doing SOMETHING whilst you are deciding the best action to take.

Some good advice from Hana and Foxglove, I get by exercising using the bottom stair and stand ups from my armchair to improve core muscle tone when I can't get out with my dog.

It also occurs to me that your budget of £300 to £600 would buy you a membership to a pretty decent gym, where you might get more motivation, as you have said, so many cross trainers and such like end up as clothes stands :D

I have a waterrower, just about the best workout you can get while seated, fairly indestructable and takes up about the same amount of room as a chair when stored upright. Works arms, legs and trunk, and takes less perceived effort so you can train for longer in the aerobic zone

Doh -I just realised this was an old thread, why it popped up in my new post list I have no idea
