Today my blood sugar was 6.2. I cleaned my house from top to bottom it has too flights of stairs to be hoovered so it is like a workout. I tested my blood glucose after out of curiosity and it was 7.4. Is this normal for exercise to increase it?

it depends on how much insulin you had working and how long after eating you started the activity.........

its a complicated science really, I struggle at times.........

Your liver can produce more glucose if it thinks the energy will be needed for prolonged activity.

I have had nothing since breakfast. So been a while since I've ate. Trying to talk myself into making something now.

I'm just a little confused as I thought exercise would help

I've found that if I do more intensive exercise an hour after eating, the glucose from the meal is burned up so BGs lower. If I did that at most other times my liver might think I'm fighting or fleeing and so produce more glucose to help until I was able to eat again. I don't know if the liver can be 'trained' not to do this, it is frustrating at times.

It does help in the long run, but immediately afterwards you are likely to see a rise. I did something similar to you when I foolishly decided to spring clean a room. My levels before the next meal were much higher than normal. I made the decision not to do any more spring cleaning Lol. Well, it's good enough excuse

It's a matter of timing the exercise, and as Sanguine says, it is best to exercise after a meal rather than before.

Exercise does help but its not a one to one relationship with blood sugar levels. In the short term, you burn your available glucose as fuel but produce more to replace it, even without eating. You can afterall, go more many days without food of any sort, but you will be burning up stores to give you the energy. This is good for diabetcis as you start to burn up your liver and pancreatic fats.

Secondly exercise improves your insulin sensitivity. This will help, over time, to reduce your BG levels.

Thirdly, exercise releases hormones which trigger the producion of certain digestive enzymes which substantially lower certain lipids in your blood and prevent more fatty deposits being aid down.

This will not be immediately evident in your blood glucose reading, but it is happening. Activity combined with diet and combined with avoiding certain highly refined carbs does work, but it takes time.

remember 6.2 to 7.4 can eaily be within the error range of the meter as well, with the true level lying somewhere between the two.

You'd need to repeat the pre- and post- tests more often to build a picture

I'd disagree.

If I'm wanting to train my fat-burning metabolism, the best way to do that is steady aerobic exercise in a fasted state.

If you want to work on speed, that's better later in the day. You can do aerobic later, but you need to be doing ot much longer to trigger the fat-burning

Reminds me of a joke, how do you get the cat to take the piano upstairs? Use a whip!
MOre of a groan inducing one than anything else that.

How about this one,

At the end of normal time in the martial arts football world cup ot was 0-0, so they had 20 minutes of ninjury time.
