Expensive to test blood glucose

Hi i am newly diagnosed T2 :D i contacted a firm called Supercheck2 found them on this website they sent me a monitor and there strips are £8.49 for 50 and can be obtained either directly from them or on prescription has anyone else got this monitor. I have read on this forum that if you have to pay for the strips yourself it is cheaper to buy them direct from your monitors website than in the chemist

Thanks - now that is cheaper!

I've already ordered Daisy's Codefree, but the meters are so cheap in comparison to the strips, I don't mind if I have a couple of them kicking around.

I was also sent a Supercheck 2 and I've found compared to any other meter I've ever used that it requires a vast amount of blood to operate. Teagan if you have not tried any other type I suggest you do cus they need about a fifth of the blood that the Supercheck does & this can cause a lot less discomfort.

The best lancet device seems to be the multiclix that comes with the aviva monitor ,so it would be good if you could get hold of this ,you may have to buy the meter but they are available on e-bay then use the multiclix with whatever meter uses the cheapest strips

I dont have a lot of experience with meters, but I have a Freestyle Freedom Mini and it uses a really really teeny tiny sample to test. Which is a bonus for me as I dont bleed much!

And the lancet really is painless to use.

I get my strips on prescription but if you have to buy them you can get them direct from the company for £15 a pack, which is a lot cheaper than the shops who charge upwards of £25. Not as cheap as the Codefree but Freestyle also replace other consumables like Cables, lancet device and batteries for free, as well as control solution so this is a bit of a bonus. As I said I have very little experience of meters so dont know if all companies offer this as standard!

i use the accu-chek aviva and buy my strips on ebay (much cheaper than boots etc)
tried the sd code free and found it so inaccurate as to be useless (just my opinion however)

in my experience just use whatever you are happy with :)

I tried the Codefree andd although cheap, I didn't trust its readings, they were VERY different from my Freestyle Mini.
I buy the Freestyle strips direct from the supplier. It's a meter I trust and they supply them at a lot less than retail price.
