It seems from testing for a whole week that my fasting reading that is now down 2 points - thanks to you all for that. (it looks like I am going in the right direction). But, I have found whatever I eat for breakfast I go up at a minimum of 4.5points - thats an apple and 6 grapes or even 1 slice of burgen bread with a scrape of lurpak on it (i mean a scrape), Cereals take me up 5 - 7 points any kind it seems and scrambled eggs on a slice of toast 5.5. Any suggestions - I only like Muller Yoghurt cant stand the yeuchy sour kind. roblem:

I know melons are highish GI but I am going to try them and I thought a Muller light mango yoghurt might be OK. Any other suggestions? : :?:

Hi Sharon

Try getting those frozen fruits like the strawberry / blueberry mixtures. People reckon anything with berry in the name is generally ok.

I then do 15g of strawberry, 15g of blueberry microwave for 40 secs then smash to pieces into 50g of plain yoghurt, I like plain Greek but any plain one will do. Admit its not a lot if you're use to eating breakfast but I never ate breakfast until diagnosed so its plenty for me.

The theory is that the sugars in the fruit are enough to get your metabolism going but are small enough to keep you in a safe BG range. I find this mixture + cups of coffee enough so that if I eat them at 9.00am when my levels are around 6 then my levels have usually dropped into the 5's by 11.00am without ever going too high.

I also got the same results by eating a tin of sardines on half a round of burgen soya bread toast but prefer the fruit yoghurt.

I try to think of it as trying so start your engine each morning with a gentle kick rather than trying to fill your fuel tank. You can do that later in the day when everything is up and running.

Hi Sharon

I am following a low carb diet too but I am type 1 and use novorapid. it's something i started a few months ago and have been having breakfast every morning, something i haven't done in years!

All I can suggest is try different options, test test test and keep a food diary. I have found that eating carbs at breakfast (such as bread, porridge or cereal) just doesnt agree with me and I was getting very random highish readings still before lunch!! I now eat a mixture of eggs (hot at weekends, cold and hard boiled during week due to work), kippers, bacon, ham, cheese and nuts, strawberries and cream etc and take 4 or 5 units with breakfast (everyone is different but this amount of insulin works for me). My sugars now at lunch range from 4.5 - 6mmol which I am very happy

Maybe try zero carbs at breakfast and see how it goes, it's just trial and error

I like the smileys too

I'd agree with the last poster, Sharon, you need to take the carbs out of your breakfasts and see what happens. I've answered another of your posts with more suggestions on this.

Cut out the obvious carbs eg bread and cereal. Fruits are sneaky - grapes have about 12g carb per 75g; apples 21g carb per medium apple. Muller yoghurts have about 10g carb per 125g. Check the labels.

You may be one of those who can't cope with carbs in the morning (unlike Grazer who can eat Shredded Wheat). Try sticking to protein for a while - omelettes, scambled egg, bacon and egg, even ham and cheese - but all without the toast.

I find a 2-egg omelette, just by itself but cooked with a knob of butter, lasts me very nicely until lunch.

I'm getting super readings since ditching the cereals and er sandwiches.

Some slices of chorizo with cheese. Other days, Greek yoghurt (how is their economy down the tubes when they make the best yoghurt?) with a sprinkle of seeds.

The only thing I'm finding that it's not as cheap as a bowl of museli was. Mind you, I am of Scottish ancestry, I even had two Pepperami sticks one morning because they were on offer
