Eye Problems again

Boyfriend

Active Member
Hi everyone
Boyfriend has had problems with his eyes again, his eyesight went bad for a few days last week but has settled back down again(although it wasnt as bad as it went before) are these fluctuations normal?x

The short answer is "NO".

Non diabetic people don't get fluctuation in their vision.

What is happening to him? What are his blood sugars running at? (Eg hbaic / usual numbers throughout the day and night).

Sorry forgot to mention on this post that he is diabetic, his diabetes was getting under control and was hovering between 6-7 which was a grand improvement on 20 odd and his sight was terrible but every now and again his sight seems to waver and we worry it will go back to how it was, scary!

On the good side he went to the docs yesterday for a diabetic blood/urine test and has to go back tomorrow so im sure they will pick up on any problems??????? (She says hopefully)

Thanksx

Another thing is it normal for diabetics to have cold sweats in the morning. Boyfriend wakes up nearly every morning in a cold sweat.x

No, no. If he was a 50 year old woman he could well wake up with hot sweats whether s/he had diabetes or not. Young guys shouldn't be having night sweats. It could be a sign that he has been having low blood sugars overnight or could be due to some infection or inflammatory condition that will need checked out by the doctor.

Disturbed vision can fluctuate with blood sugar problems but again this is not a good sign in diabetes.

The good thing is that he is getting checked out.

Are the high blood sugars just a new/ sudden thing or has his control been poor for a long while?

Hi, sorry not been on for a while but things have been really busy at home.Last week boyfriend went for blood tests and they came back at 6.2. The doc says she is really really pleased with him and has never seen someone get their diabetes under control as quickly and as well as he has done. She repeated this about 3 times he said. She also said that his state of his kidneys had also improved......whats that all about then?.His vision is ok again and he isnt having as many sweats, i wouldnt even call them night sweats as they only seem to start in the morning just as he is near waking up.

So while things are a bit up and down with him, the proof is in the pudding and we seem to be doing stuff right. He did tell the doc that he couldnt have done it without me which is nice. ....and i couldnt have done it without you guys. so a big THANK YOU!!XXXX

O and by the way i cant remember who it was asked me but those that dont know the history boyfriend was diagnosed around april this year and his BS levels were in the 20's and his eyesight had deteriorated so that he had to wear really thick glasses....we had only been together a few weeks so have had our share of problems for a new relationship but things are looking good.xx

He is still having the cold sweats just before waking in the morning. I spoke to him about it and he said he had been having the cold sweats for about 4 years on and off. I spose if it was something serious it would have been picked up in blood tests etc.??

I would get him to test his blood sugars as soon as he wakes to see if they are low.

Regards, Catherine.

Just a idea

If as you said that the main cold sweats during the night have stopped, but he can still get them before waking..

This could show that in he could be getting a low but futher into his sleep pattern, it might be a idea to take a BG before he retires to bed, then if his cold sweats are prettying well about the same time lets say around the 7am ish, for agrument sack, then take a BG at 6am and then one when he would wakes... And slowly over several nights take one about a hour before the last night, this should give some indication to way his BG might be raising and falling and raising again..

Given a bit more info, to decide what his best action to over come this might be!
