Hi, I was diagnosed with type 1 Feb last year, confirmed after lots of tests last week!
I am really really trying to control my BG and not doing too bad although I am having more hypos than normal.
My problem is that today I work up and my eyes were very blurry, I thought it was because I had just woken up, but throughout the day it's got worse and not better, so much so I have been unable to drive.
I had an eye test last year as part of my initial diabetic checks and that came back perfectly normal.
I just wonder if this has happened to anyone else and so suddenly and will it clear up.
My BG has been well within range for the past week. My FBG was high but is now down to 7 help!

When I was in hospital last year with DKA my eyesight started to go blurry due to me recovering from high blood sugars,it lasted for a week or so,so wouldn't worry to much about it. :)

As blood sugars improve, glucose levels in the lens also improve and this changes the ability of the lens to focus. It's quite common for someone to get blurry eyesight for a few weeks when they improve their blood glucose control. Diabetic retinopathy affecting the macula can also cause blurring but tends to happen more gradually. If the blurring doesn't improve after a few weeks, see an optician (or before, if you are very concerned).

Michaela, how horrid, but it probably isn't neuropathy damage, as that usually takes some years to unfold. It may be just blood sugar levels that exert their darling little (temporary) changes on the lenses in your eyes. Because the specific gravity of the liquid in our eyes is changed by high BG, the poor lenses change their shape a bit. This screws up the vision.

It's completely reversible with six to eight weeks of lower and consistent BG.

If that's what this is, then key for you is getting your BG down and flat.

That means low carb, in my experience, ie dropping all starchy foods - bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, and fruit. Sorry if you know all this. If you don't, the Diet Doctor site a useful guide to low carb.

Your BG doesn't sound hugely high, bet it may be that your particular organism requires low BGs.

That's probably the exact cause, your eyes get used to running high as said above , then your bloods come down and hey presto you get blurry vision......

The guy who did my yearly hospital eye test explained this to me, says he gets the question all the time....

It can be caused by other things though, so give it a few weeks of stable levels and see how it is..........
