Just got my yearly eye sight check done in Specsavers and the optician told me i don't need another for two years as my diabetes is under control. Is this a new government thing or has it always been the case?I've had my eye sight checked every year since I was diagnosed 5 years ago.

As far as I'm aware it's always been every two years. But you should have a diabetic eye screening every year.

Mines always checked every year
Simple solution is go to another optician after the one year and go back to the original for the 2nd year.

I noticed SS had put me on a two year recall after eyes tested last year. I went to them after being peed off with original optician as they could not after 3 attempts sort out my varifocal lenses. Original optician sent me a reminder the other day for my yearly check.
So no idea what's going on.
Bottom line is though if you feel your eyesight has changed you are entitled to have a free eye check.

Thanks carbs,i'll do that.have to say wasnt impressed with specsavers.especially picking a new pair of glasses,it was the hard sell with all the optional coatings and various lenses.think ill stick with a local/independent optician

Found this, it seems to be at the optician's discretion as to when you need another eye test.

Can I ask for a sight test more frequently?
If you are concerned about your sight before your next NHS sight test is due, you should visit your ophthalmic practitioner. The ophthalmic practitioner will be able to carry out an NHS sight test earlier than planned, if it is considered clinically necessary. If you want a sight test more often than your ophthalmic practitioner considers clinically necessary, you will have to pay for a private sight test.

This does not include the digital imaging to detect diabetic retinopathy as this is a yearly test that diabetics are entitled to.
