Hi
i was newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic, mid November after 'well man' routine visit to my gp.

i am now on metformin and diet. I play snooker and wear disposable soft contact lenses, at he start
of the season my sight was fine, very clear, however when the dbts hit, overnight my sight declined, with snooker all the balls had a fuzzy edge etc!!

i have just had an eye test and curiously my sight seems to have improved!! in that my prescription is now too strong!! Does this mean that the dibts has changed the shape of my lens?

I would appreciate any specific or general advice,
Cheers Choco

Hi Choco and welcome to the forum.

Its pretty normal to have blurred vision after diagnosis as you start to make better food choices and the drugs kick in. Diabetes causes high blood glucose which in turn increases pressure in the blood vessels in the eye and as it happens so slowly you do not notice it but when you make a concerted effort to reduce your blood sugars the pressure is reduced and the eye changes shape again causing the blurred vision.

I had to wear +1.25 reading glasses for 6 weeks after diagnosis to see well enough to drive but it does return to normal. I was advised not to have an eye test for at least 6 weeks after reducing my blood glucose as any prescription for glasses then would be a waste of money.

So stick with it and your vision should return to normal over the next few weeks

thanks for reply, ive had a free trial with new prescription disposable contacts, sight was very clear and have ordered some off the net much cheaper than optician's brand, so no great loss if sight changes again
cheers
