As a newly diagnosed type 2 I am wondering why my eyesight has deteriorated to the point I can’t wear my glasses. The optician told me they can’t test my eyesight just yet as when my levels drop my eyesight should return to normal but went on to say there was no diabetes in my eyes. I can’t understand that. I should have asked there and then but I just didn’t think. An anyone answer? I am walking around like mr Magoo.

I think that the optician was saying that you do not have any signs of diabetic retinopathy i.e. damage to the retina of your eye due to being diabetic. This is a good thing. However, accumulation of glucose within the eyes changes how your eyes work. This is temporary (but scary). Once you get your blood glucose levels under control your eyesight should return to what is normal for you. It may even improve on that - mine did.
