I am newly diagnosed with Type 2 and I am now injecting insulin twice a day. When I went into hospital my glucose level was 47 and, amongst other things my eyesight was completely blurred - it improved greatly last week but has now reverted to blurred - is this to be expected??

Yes, changing blood glucose, whether it be from normal to high or from high to normal or lower causes blurry vision.
This usually settles within a week or two.
