Hi, looking for some advice if possible.

I've been urinating quite frequently for the longest time but stupidly put off going to the doctors until about a month ago when my eyes became really red, I woke up with blurred vision and sometimes they are sore throughout the day.

My doctor did blood tests and a urine test and nothing untoward was found. My doctor even said the words 'you don't have diabetes' yet I'm sure theblood sugar level was something like 6 which is high?

My eyes seem to be getting worse and more red. I've been given drops which seem to have has zero effect. I've convinced myself that it is diabetic retinopathy as there is nothing else I can think of despite now having two opticians and two doctors tell me nothing is wrong yet my eyesight continues to be getting worse. As a glasses wearer already I can't risk my sight getting worse but am not getting anywhere with doctors etc who give me eye drops which are doing nothing.

I've got another blood test in a few weeks but can a blood test and urine test miss diabetes? As with frequent ruination and eyesight it does seen there is a connection.

I also can't seem to find pictures of what a persons eye looks like with retinopathy but could send pictures of my eye to somebody that has suffered in the past.

Thanks for your time and apologies for the long post.

Hi Shaun,

A blood test and urine test can't miss diabetes if that's what it's being tested for, so if you had it it should show up in the test.

Do you know anyone that has diabetes that you could ask if you could test yourself with their bg machine to see what your levels are like?

Have you had any eye infections or anything recently?

If you haven't been diagnosed with diabetes yet I can't (personally) see it being diabetic retinopathy so quickly but I could be very wrong and someone may correct me

Abbie x

Thanks for the reply.

I just can't find any other connection between urination and blurred vision/sore eyes.

No infections recently though it did seem to start when I got my new contact lenses but just wearing glasses and using the drops should mean it's getting better not worse.

Have purposely cut out sugar and trying to watch what I eat and drink. It's almost a month since my last blood test so that's almost due but it's just a bit worrying that two doctors and two opticians are saying my eyes are okay when clearly something is wrong.

Did the doctor order your next blood tests to confirm the first, or is it for some other reason? Was it a random test, or fasting, was it from a vein or a finger prick?

The test was ordered just to check for any issues whilst I was there for the urination and eye problems. From a vein and I didn't fast but can't remember eating after my tea the day before and only drank water on the day as it was a 9am appointment so quite early.

Didn't give a reason for doing another in a months time given that he said all numbers looked fine and kidney and liver functioning well etc.

It's just a nuisance going back and forth and told there's no problem when there is. Having seen the two doctors at my local surgery I don't know who I can ask for another opinion when they are the only two there.

Have you started using a different computer/tablet .. Lots of people that have changed to the new apple retina displays are reporting painful eyes .. As for needing the loo .. Have you changed your diet .. Are you eating a diuretic .. Try to think outside the box for health problems if the normal route is not finding the answer !!!!

The reason for your second lot of tests will be to confirm the first. One random or fasting test on its own tells you nothing. When you go for your second results, ask for a print out of the results so you know exactly where you are, what sort of test it was, and what all the other bits and bobs are. It may even be for an HbA1c test, which is the main test used for diabetes diagnosis. Until then no-one here can tell you if you have diabetes or not.
