Prior to being diagnosed even with my glasses my long site was very blurry and annoying. This has now returned to normal but now my short site has gone blurry. Is this normal and will it go back to normal eventually?

I notice you are a newly diagnosed type 2. I am a type 1 and I know for type 1s when newly diagnosed it is normal for sight to go a bit blurry as it is the sugar levels that are adjusting to the medication. For me it was insulin but you it must be the tablets lowering the blood sugar levels. Wait another week or so and maybe make a note of these changes to discuss next with your DSN when you next see him / her. Overall though I would say it's nothing much to worry about and part of the medication as you are newly diagnosed.

Hi Lemonie
We have had another thread bout this problem very recently. High sugar can cause blurry eyes so while you are stabilizing, then these things are posssible. Though it is always worth getting your eyes checked by your optican, just to rule out anything else - but don't buy new glasses yet as your eyes may change again and make them usless too.

If you are newly diagnosed then you will be given an appointment to have your eyes to be checked at the diabetics eye clinc at the hospital.

You do get blurry vision when you BS is high as I did before I was diagnosed and thought my eyes were going. since getting my BS under control I now very rarely get blurry vision just on an odd ocassion and I mean just an odd ocassion. This is usually when I have spent a lot of time on my laptop.

But as advice given above don't change your classes until your BS has settled down and you have had your appointment at the Eye Clinc.

Part of the symptons of diabetics is burry vision. But it will settle.

Best of luck
Sue :)

Hi Lemonie, dont worry too much bout your eye sight for at least 6 weeks after you get your bg levels down. high blood glucose causes a pressure build up in the blood vessels behind the eye, as your glucose levels drop so does the pressure behind your eyes and this causes blurred vision as your eyes return to normal.

I found I had to wear reading glasses to drive and watch TV for a few weeks after diagnoses, I was advised not to have an eye test for at least 6 weeks which I did and the reading glasses I bought then are now useless  so i would say wait at least a couple of months to let things settle down to your better controlled bg levels. :D

Am thinking of ringing the nurse tomorrow as I can't wear my glasses today as it's like I've put somebody else's on. I've worn glasses since I was 13 and am now 42 and my eyes don't change often. My BG is down to around 8 but today I can't see the pc (about 12 inches from my nose at the mo) can't see the tele and can't drive. Am trapped at home as have mobility problems.

As I said probably the change in BG levels BUT it is never worth taking risks with your eyes, even to reassure yourself get it checked by an eye proffesional.

I have said this elswhere recently, supermarkets and discount stores sell reading glasses cheaply, if necessary for a short while, I have just paid 1.99 for a pair to read in bed with. Get checked out but don't get talked into paying lots for new glasses until your diabetes has settled down.
