Facebook or not?

i was wondering if I could have some advice here. I would quite like a Facebook account as many of the clubs my daughters belong to and their school give out info through face book. However my work regularly check people's social media and the students bombard people with requests for friends. Even ex students but this isn't ok either as they sometimes have siblings or friends who have siblings still at school so I thought about opening an account with a user name to keep my private life just that. Private. I resent anyone checking up on me and my hubbies work do the same. He has seen people dragged into the office for some innocent remark made on Facebook. Is it possible therefore to create an account and how do I do it?

You can even use your real name but Stop people from finding you on facebook! My boyfriend is the same you can only search for him on there unless you're friends with him! just make all of your privacy settings as all private or something :)

It's too silly for me .. Have fallen out with friends that want to give information of what they ate las and where .. What they believe in and who they are doing a witch hunt against. Also get a lot of chain mail passed on that I just delete so a 100 years bad luck for me now :)
If I want to keep in touch I will email or telephone not post it for all friends to see on FB

Facebook's privacy settings are surprisingly watertight. You can set everything to 'friends only' to prevent being snooped on by anyone.

You can even double check your privacy options by clicking view as... here:

This lets you view your own profile as a member of the public, just allowing you to double check what they can see. It gives you the opportunity to go through and hide anything you wouldn't want the public viewing :)
I did all that but sadly I still fell out with people that I classed as friend .. Once they get on FB they put their brain in the dust bin and post trash .. My life is too short for that .. Sadly so is theirs

Each to their own! I think I've managed to develop a skill where I can skip past all the rubbish on my news feed, which is most of it.

@Enclave
I have had friends who've fallen out with friends but it's really just so we can get all the info with clubs and the like. Brownies are now posting up with Facebook rather than emailing. I have a friend who has the same issues. All the football club info is provided that way. I sort of feel like I have to but literally just want it so I can find out key info.

I have an account in my own name, with all privacy settings set to maximum. Friends only can see what I write, friends only can write on my page and I can delete anything I wish. The "friends of friends" setting is something definitely to be avoided. I have a non descript avatar and don't fill in many personal details, making it harder for anyone to find me.

I like it because you can join/set up a private secret club, which only members can see and can't be searched, so if you set up one of those and invite only your closest friends, you can all chat in total privacy.
