Facebook Diabetes UK is so depressing ,there are some who have "The Knowledge" and try to point people in the right direction but most don,t have a clue talk rubbish and follow the party line and these seem to be in the majority, the future looks very bleak and the Diabetes Centers are going to get fuller.

I rely on the excellent advice on here although I may take a look. I've just been given literature from the DSN (at my first visit) and I think that's endorsed by Diabetes UK.

There's lots of contradicting information out there so those that are new to all of this must be pulled in all directions as to what they should/shouldn't be doing! :arghh:

I myself have drastically reduced the amount of carbs I'm eating (not particularly very low) but it's having a positive effect already.

I tested at 6.3 mmols this morning before eating anything (yes, I got up very late after a leisurely lie in :D) and I have not long had some cereal :eek: but that's to test how my body reacts and it needs to be eaten. If I'm ok after 90 mins I will have it occasionally and if not hubby can finish the box!
 
The OP is referring to the comments made by members of the FaceBook page, not this forum tigerlilly :)
The advice on here is amazing. The comments on FB page are often a mixture of trolls and idiots, with a few sensible ones thrown in for good measure.

@Southbeds: we do get them here occasionally too, but as the forums are moderated, they can be dealt with appropriately!

However, trolls and idiots are the price we have to pay for freedom of speech for all on the web.

Having lived 30yrs + as a T1... The future looks positive to me...

Facebooks etc are well, depressingly full of sombre rubbish...

The positivity and help from this website rather than any other facebook etc is fantastic.

I now have an issue relating to cancer but have not googled anything at all regarding this new issue. To be honest I hsve learnt that there are certain good wensites and forums ref diabetes and I have had had wonderful help, advice and warmth from this one in particular.

I am scared of cancer googling as I am not sure which ones are good or bad etc.. I'm certainly not going to facebook.

I can say that there is deginitely a huge difference in all types of diabetes to those of persons with cancer.

I meet through my hobbies, work and volunteering- a lot of patients... And talk in a lot if detail with them.

Cancer patients tend to be given more direct, positive advice and actions.. Diabetics whether T1 or T2 etc seem to be given such dull, **** advice that does not give good positivity....

Both are critical illnesses...

One is more in hands of surgeons....

Diabetes more in hands of the patient but guidance and help and posititivity is lacking.

Don't give second thoughts to facebook strangers...... This forum has true friends and supporters... Although most are virtual...

Thanks so much .... Your comments are very much appreciated....I have a fantastic surgeon and have been keeping myself busy with moving and packing as well and also fund raising. May be a bit of denial...just that I certainly couldn't face book anything relating to "C".... I will Macmillan at some point...

Amazing though at positive stories from Cancer patients compared to diabetic patients.

You might be surprised at the support you would get here too. Quite a few members have managed both conditions, and share their good news outcomes.
