Hi All, Really glad that I have found this particular forum, its all a bit new and a tad scary at times, this diagnosis that is not the forum! I'm a bit of a newbie to knowing anything about diabetes. i was diagnosed type 2 on the 18th December 08. My first blood sugar reading was 21.2 followed by a reading in the surgery of 18.5 then a few days later a reading of 27.1....the following week it was 9.9 but that was the morning I went in for a fasting cholesterol test.

My previous medical history is:- breast cancer x2 , cervical cancer and a rare tumour called a Pheochromocytoma which is a tumour on the adrenal gland.

I don;t know what else to write here really but thought it was time to introduce myself instead of lurking and reading.

Incidentally my meds are Metaformin x 500 mg twice daily and 40mg of Glicazide once daily. It was 80mg but the GP cut it down when I had the 9.9 result

I have been a bit naughty with testing a lot and am due to see my GP tomorrow... he did say to test every other day but since finding this forum I have taken on board low carbs and finding what raises my blood sugar..

At the moment the readings are between 7.2 and 16.6

Hi Gina,
Welcome from me too. I don't agree that you've been naughty testing yourself. That is THE best thing you can do, especially so soon after diagnosis. I'm sure you'll soon settle in here and if you have questions, there is always someone ready with some sensible advice.
All the best, chocoholic.

Welcome to the forum! You're sure to find great advice here. Remember no question is a silly question so feel free to ask about anything!!

Thank you all.... took me a our to walk the 10 mins in the car (all up hill practically) to the doctors this morning and then undone all my good work by having a doughnut on the way home ( I knew when I had it I was doing myself no favours... ) BS on leaving house 7.1 Bs two hours after the sugar rush.. 16.5... doghouse for me now! two hours of walking for a doughnut... :S

Its definitely a learning process.
