Falling asleep

I was wondering if anyone else has the problem of falling asleep after eating?I feel like I almost go unconscious and when I wake up I have a headache like a hangover. The food only has to have a small amount of carbs. I feel so much better if I don't eat at all through the day.

I used to doze off every afternoon after lunch and feel dizzy on awakening -- quite different from the sort of nap that refreshes, which happens now. Looking back at your posts you seem to be sensitive to quite a lot of things so I wonder if something specific is causing this? It might be related to your general health rather than something in your food. Just a thought. Hope you get it sorted.

Sounds a bit like the problem I had with mercury fillings thirty years ago or more. If I had anything hot or even warm I fell asleep as if drugged. It didn't depend at all on carbs or anything, only heat. A cup of tea or coffee without anything was as bad or worse as pasta would be now. Knocked me out really.

Hi Lilliepop,

I had this problem with falling asleep after my evening meal . . . it happened frequently over a few years, and (because I was in my mid-30s at the time) I just assumed that it was middle age creeping up on me . . . I remembered as a kid watching my Dad falling asleep in front of the TV in the evening, after a long day at his work, and assumed that I was going down the same path.

In actual fact it was Hypos. I have generally eaten Low-Carb throughout my time as a Diabetic, and during these few years it often happened that my Insulin (Humalog) worked faster than my food, which resulted in extreme tiredness. At the time I thought it was age creeping up so I did not interpret this as a Diabetes-related problem. But over time I realised it, and discussed it with my Doctor. We changed my Insulin from Humalog to Huminsulin Normal (called Humulin S in the UK) and this matched my diet much better. If I had twigged earlier, then I would have taken to splitting my Humalog injections, but anyway the new Insulin resolved the problem.

May not be anything to do with your problem, but might be helpful for you or somebody else . . .

Regards :)
Antony
