Rude people! Not being able to do the things I want to do.
I intend to keep a list of persistant offenders so that Admin can delete them from profiles.First in the queue:

Sue, thanks for your help and time. We are setting aside some time in february for a site and forum clean up, at which point all of these spammers will be zapped. I'll mop these ones up as and when you add them though. Thanks, Admin
 
Dan,

There is posssibly an easy way to identify a spam email as soon as it arrives. I noticed the poster's profile always has the same first name and surname. If you can program the filter to check for this then the posts can be zapped before they reach the board.
 
Would it not be possible to give the mods junior admin rights so they have more control over the members profiles (allows them to add members profiles to the banned list in either email address, IP and also domain) and change the registration to admin approval only so they can filter the spammers before they start to post. I know you can do this in SMF and also phpBB2 software so maybe the latest version of snitz should ?
 
Ash, we have someone assessing the relative merits of PHP and VBulletin. We are still trying to work out how to take all member profiles (less the spammers :twisted:) and threads into the new software. To accompany the new look and feel of the site, this has to happen because Snitz is too limited. On the upside, it'll make the community much more interesting in the long-run.

Did you see my post on the SMF forum software Dan ?. It is IMO the best of the open source freeware forum software available, and very stable.

I think that the best approach would be to get this database imported into the new software, and then give the mods junior admin rights to zap them with a IP ban as they start to spam again. I don't think there are any shortcuts :(
 
Can't we do something about Elultyliexy. This one must the the most persistent of our spammers - at least one post every day. I can only assume that every time the profile is deleted it gets set up again.

Is it possible to build a black list from all the spammers listed here that the system could use to stop them from resetting their profiles?
 
I'm hoping admin comes up with something!Maybe the new site will block these pests!

I hate spam since buying some antobiotics from an American website in December ive had about 800 emails which google have filtered but they are an annoyance as i have to delete them.
