Forgive me if I've asked already..

As my sig says I'm planning to ask to come off insulin at my next appointment (in March) and to this end I've been flying without the Novarapid for a couple of weeks and have almost got rid of the Lantus. This leaves me on 850 of Metformin twice daily.

Assuming that I can remove the need for the insulin using Metformin and Diet, is there a faster acting tablet I could use to assist the Metformin - or am I looking for a magic bullet that doesn't exist? What do other people use as medication alongside Metformin that I could ask about at my review?

Hi. The usual 2nd stage adder to Met is Gliclazide if you're not an insulin resistant Type 2 as it can stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin. I am also on Sitagliptin which is another option to try but costs more and has a different mechanism.

There is a tablet called *Starlix* it's made by Novartis and i think isn't prescribed often. It's taken just before eating and has a quick, fairly short action.
I've used it in the past.
