Why do the doctors tell me I must fast for 14 hours, when this site states 8 hours fasting?

I will add here that it is the receptionist at the doctors surgery, not the GP that told me 14 hours. Are they being over cautious?

you should follow your doctors instructions there must be a reason why they have told you this set amount of time to fast for and your doctor knows all your medical history and best to advise you.

a member recently posted about a 12 hours fasting test.

I would follow louises advice and fast for how long your doctor advises.

Wouldn't hurt maybe asking your DR why he/she requested 14 hours though:)

I usually fast for 12 hours, but I overheard one of the receptionists say something about 14 hours the other day.

It's not too difficult, really - just ask for a 09:00 appointment, or earlier. That means only water after 19:00 - I don't often eat between 7pm and breakfast. What I do miss is my first-thing coffee  - I've been known to take a flask with me
