I think that both have an effect on the HbA1c as that is simply an average. However I think that they have different thin gs to tell us. The fasting one is effected by the liver dump- I am hoping that that will reduce over time as I keep to the LCHF way of life. The 2 hours after a meal tells you about how that meal effected your body. 2 hours is just a time frame depending on what you ate the actual spike may be later or perhaps earlier however the message is if it goes up by 2 then reduce the amount of arbs before eating it again.

Both are important and both contribute in my view.

Neither. Your HbA1c is an average of all your glucose levels 24/7 and there's no way for your body to distinguish after the event what that level was at any given time, or what caused any rise or fall. However, as @Vashti says, the various fasting, pre and post meal spot check finger prick tests all provide you with important information, and IMO are more relevant to our glucose management than an average figure given by an HbA1C.
