Hi I'm 22 and I developed all the symptoms of diabetes about 4 months ago but didn't go to the doctors untill a couple of days ago I now have a fasting blood sugar test on Monday I'm so scared and worried I don't know what to think or expect I actually wanted to know how long it would take for the results to come back? thank you :)

Hi Ben and welcome, you should have your bloods back in around a week but if you ask when you have them done, the should be able to tell you

Ok thank you. If they come back that I do have it what should I expect next and will I need time off work? Thank you for you help

what to expect next, well when I was diagnosed I got a phone call and told they were putting me on metfomin pills 3x a day and would take another blood test 6 weeks later......come pick up the prescription and make a appointment to see the nurse!

Then that week I saw the nurse from the GP surgery, and she did strange things to my feet with a small vibrating thing and a sharp proddy stick!!! (diabetes may lead to poor circulation and reduced feeling in the feet, so im guessing that not the last time they will do that to me!)

I then got given a blood-glucose monitor so I could keep track of my levels, and a bunch of leaflets about what to eat (this is a huge topic of controversy, as the NHS recommend eating potatoes, bread, rice, pasta.....where as most diabetics will avoid carbs like the plague due to what they do to your blood glucose)

Iv only been dealing with this a couple of months, and was terrified at first.....but now my numbers are coming down, I eat less crabs and more veg, and am starting to get my head around things.

down panic, and ask lots of questions!

Hi Ben! Good luck today - guess you will probably have had your blood test done by now.
At my surgery they get the results back the same day. I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago. Following the fasting blood test was rung up same afternoon and given an appointment to see the diabetic nurse 2 days later. Had done some research between phone call and appointment! Nurse was very good - wanted to put me straight on medication, I refused asked for 3 months to stabilise by diet, she was very supportive and prescribed monitor equipment. Then I went on holiday so did not see her again for 3 weeks :D
I think services vary a lot from area to area, hope yours is responsive and supportive. There's also lots out there, especially this board.
