Fasting Blood Tests

My son aged 32 has had a routine blood test for glucose and hba1c.
He is in a terrible panic because he has been notified that the tests need repeating. He has suddenly realised that actually he had a crumpet for breakfast before the blood test. In his defence he has recently had complex brain surgery and has ADHD; I don't know how he could have forgotten otherwise! I just wondered how much the crumpet would have influenced his blood glucose level result? Sorry to be so thick but obviously quite worried as a mum given his other health problems! I would very much appreciate your opinions please

The crumpet shouldn't affect the hba1c at all because that's and indicator of blood glucose levels over two or three months. However it certainly could/would have influenced the blood glucose reading, making it higher that it would have been, had he been fasting for twelve hours. Best thing to do is forget this test, and wait for the re-test, making sure to observe the fasting period next time. Good luck!

Thank you very much! I will send him a text now. Hopefully your kind words will put his mind at ease!
