Type of diabetes
Type 2
Hi Guys
I have been diagnosed with type 2 and I am on slow release metformin and have lost three stone. Last few days I have felt light headed and empty when getting up. Checked my fasting sugar today to.see if it is caused by high blood sugar and it shows 8.
I am taking 4 x 500 tablets a day.
Is my fasting sugar high.
Thank you for your help

Hi. It's a little on the high side; the target is between 5 - 7 if possible. You've achieved a lot already with the weight loss so keep going and the fasting BS may go down a bit further. I assume you have also reduced the carbs in your diet?

Yes trying hard but struggle with cutting down on bread. Usually have two rich tea biscuits at 10 o clock should I cut them out

It really helps to cut out as many carbs as you can.
So yes cutting bread and biscuits will help. If you want to snack try some cheese, pork scratchings or other low carb delights..

Hi Oscar ! Poundland do sugar free hardly any carb Marie biscuits - I've struggled with giving up bread but gave myself a good talking to ha .

Why? they are useless sources of nutrition and taste bland. They are also very bad for diabetes so why would you want to eat them.. seriously..
Because ... it's my choice ! You are really quite opinionated aren't you .. seriously

What's so wrong about asking why people want to continue eating carbs when they also claim they want to reduce their glucose levels? It's a simple fact that carbs are, for the most part, unnecessary and addictive, and if you want to reduce your BG you won't get results if you continue to eat the food that causes the problems.

I don't actually care if people choose to eat carbs, but I do have serious concerns when others are encouraged to do so, when they should be encouraged instead to avoid carby "treats". It's no wonder there' a "diabetic epidemic"...

Robbity
And PS - sugar free does not necessarily mean carbohydrate free. It's an important distinction.

It was making choices such as those that led to a lot of us being here in the first place.
I try and help people to make better choices.. if I can't do that without people getting overly defensive then I may as well give up.

We are all here to first of all get advice and hopefully ourselves help others when we are also accustomed to how we live with our condition. We are not on here, in my opinion to tell people what to eat if we don't choose to eat those things .
We all have good days - we all have bad .
