Hi,

Is it OK to fast all day and then have an evening meal. I am type 2 on 1500mg metformin a day. Some people say its ok and some say no. What is the general opinion here?

Hi @speedboy21 I fast every day at least 18hrs but do 22 often. Fasting suits some people and not others. So are you looking at skipping breakfast and dinner? What reason do you want to try fasting? If you have an evening meal don't make it to late, I don't eat after 8.00pm. If you want more info have a look at Dr Jason Fungs video's on fasting. There is also a forum thread on fasting.:)

Remember to stay hydrated while fasting. Why not have a gander at the Food and Nutrition area of the forum, lots of hints, tips and links there. Fasting can aid bg levels and weight loss safely. As has been said, Dr. Jason Fung is the very man on this subject and has many lectures and short presentations on YouTube covering all aspects of Intermittent Fasting. Good Luck.

I do it most days.. sometimes have lunch but usually only a fairly substantial dinner. Not on any meds though. I'd be interested to know who says not to?

It’s been a key part of my reducing blood sugars and weight loss. Highly recommend it.

Hi All
I’m interested in giving it a try. I ve been diagnosed a diabetic last year July and was on 3 tablets a day. I’m now down to one and checking sugar levels. But I would like to be off it completely

Hi @38candy go on give it a go:) You can start by doing 12 hours from say 8.00pm till 8.00am (most of the time your asleep). Then you could try to extend it to say 12.00am. Make sure you keep hydrated, I only drink black tea, coffee and water while fasting. As mentioned by @Guzzler plenty of info regarding fasting available. Good luck:happy:

Is that fasting? I thought that's what most people did anyway.
Walter Longo(?) I'm almost certain reckons 13 hours is a sufficient time for the fasting mimicking diet. I certainly did not have a rule about stopping eating after 8pm before I was diagnosed and sometimes have my second meal of the day later than that now.

Hi

Thanks so much for replying and apology for the delay in responding. I tried the 12 hours and finished at 7.30 my sugar levels had dropped from 6.8 to 6.2. Im doing it tonight at the same time and just drinking water or herbal tea if required

Intermittent fasting involves periods of fast and periods of regular consumption of food. Fasting means very little to no consumption of food. It supports the good metabolism and lead to health body.
