Fat Fast Starting Monday 3rd August

Nom - how are your muscles feeling - will post why I've asked such a question on reply.

That Fulking hill is very steep, judging by the contour lines! How are your calf muscles holding up? There is a very steep hill near me, but I only climb there if I feel super fit because I hate only getting halfway up!
Hola merry one - yes that Fulking hill was indeed very steep. Contours nice and tight on the map and when you run out of brighton it does indeed look a task and a half. Aim of the run up there was to test heart rate vs fatigue on and uphill section. What seemed to work was keeping the HR below 166 which is above the range I like to run out but was sustainable without lactic acid build up. so happy with the experiment as rather flat where I live. Mag oil on completion. Calves good for a run out following day.

Hola @nosher8355

Can't speak for the others as we we're all coming in to it from different start points and different objectives. Mine was to be in optimum ketosis for a run walk I have at the end of Aug - 53 miles no less in case I haven't mentioned it before!

3 weeks to go and my attention is turned to how to enjoy the experience before during and after so want morning ketones of 1.25 no more, no less. Energy levels are great - in fact it's hard to go to bed without going out for a run. Side effects have been documented and that was the brain fog - which is due to me being so far out of the zone to begin with. If for example I used a fat fast in the next 3 weeks it would only be to correct BK numbers and as I have 6 packs bought at a bargain price on ebay I will be using then extensively here on in.

Glad that you don't have to record anything on your day to day basis but it would be impossible to do a fat fast without mfp because you are restricting yourself to circa 1k cals with ratio of 90% fat. I'd describe the ff as a tool rather than a diet etc etc.

The fast should mean that I stay in ketosis if I watch my protein and restict my carbs whilst keeping the fat ratio high.

Is that living and performance?

Yes I would expect the recovery to be faster but what I wanted to know without leading you to the answer was the bulk of your muscles? If 5.0 plus is starvation ketosis - is your body breaking down muscles for fuel? Mind you we could always do a bear grills and banish you to an island for a month to find out!

Yes - we know that = hardly paradise is it?

Ok reverse question coming to the fore now and that is my arm muscles feel not as 'bulky' as before the FF. There are 2 explanations for this.

1) as I converted from glucosis to ketosis my body used protein ie muscles mass for energy whilst converting.

2) I have done no resitance training for 2 weeks and limited amount of racketball which I know from past experience would reduce 'bulk'

Indeed - After a run I mag up on legs for 20 mins while sorting the dog out an necking a bit of protein then have a shower. That and sodium is the answer to a cramp free night.

J'sss Nom - I preferred it when your were banned - can I go to bed now!

Agreed. Now ****** off - I'm out of here,

Since the beginning of the FF, I have noticed that I am going to bed earlier than I normally do, by several hours. And I still wake up at my usual time, about an hour before dawn. I'm not certain if it can be attributed to the FF, but it is an improvement in actually going to sleep, and feeling more rested.
Could be the cod liver oil, though. Certainly more energy than before
I agree with nom about being prepared for FF before plunging in. I remembered an unpleasant 24hours during the last one, and wished to forestall it if I could, so that is why I did a couple of days of water fasting beforehand, which helped.

I am still inky, this morning ketones 1.7and this afternoon 2.2 .chuff chuff.

My BGL was 4.8mmol/L this am and my ketones were 1.8. Now, at 8pm, my ketones are 2.6, which is perfect for me, on this water fasting day, tomorrow back onto low carbs, high fat.
I must say that the difference for me between water and fat fasting, is hardly noticeable in single days, except that there is a lot of borborygmi. But that is only the microbiome screaming for supper.!

@Baruney, I may have found something snackworthy, for your endurance backpack. Have you considered small meat or fish pastes? Aldi does one called Tuna and Mayo which has 5 carbs per 100g.The jar only holds 80g. So no danger, and not bad with cucumber. And should be OK in a sweaty pack such as you describe.

Nom, you are chuffing like billy-o. Super result. Don't go too far - no one can hear you in outer space!
Now, if we can just keep going until Baruney's Run, we all might learn something of benefit, in our various ways. I'm up for it!

Cheers @merrylizard. I haven't seem them in our local aldi but tried something similar from lidl - a crab terrine if I remember rightly. Just over 2 weeks to go now and final preps in hand - going to try a bit of night navigation on the weekend.

Hope all is good your end - what is the water fast by the way - just drink water?

Yes, and not even bread to go with it

I was just reading this and thought the subject was interesting. Even in the olden days, they knew stuff!

I have done water fasts too and I didn't lose as much weight doing them as I did doing my fat fast with over 2100 calories daily. And of course as soon as I started eating again I put weight on. I am still maintaining my 6 pounds loss so far

Well done all of you. You did it a lot more scientifically than me. Great results.

I have done water fasts, but I cheated a little by having tea instead of water. No milk, no sugar.
Just hot water and a tea bag!

The oxidants are good!
The small amount of caffeine is bad!

Banting!
@zand Au contraire you did great too and mine was more about the ketones than weight. In saying that I am bang on my bounce point of 15 stone and I just bounce right off it every time - so annoying.

Anyone up for a team ff mid September?

Yes, that would be great timing for me! As long as I can do it the same way as before, do you mind that?

Of course. The more the merrier. We'll all have our own objectives and interpretation of what a ff is and most importantly how it works for us personally. Mid sept then date TBA.
