Hi all,

Been battling bg's for just over two years after my son was diagnosed type 1 a month before his 4th birthday. Steep learning curve starting out with mixed insulin and being advised to eat plenty of snacky carb foods which seemed a pretty poor diet. Moved onto MDI and carb counting before going onto the Omnipod in May.

I have been reading the forum for about 9 months so thought it was about time I joined.

Welcome to the forum @Binary

Understand why they start young children on mixed insulin/twice daily dose but MDI is much better approach once you get use to injections, but good news that he has been started on a pump in May and I hope it all goes well.

Cheers, very happy with the flexibility the pump offers and that we have been able to reduce his night time numbers. Used to try and aim for his figures to rise to 12 as they would drop to much in the early hours. Now we aren't happy if they go into double figures.

That's the beauty of a pump, the ability to fine-tune the basal insulin dose by having different basal rates throughout a 24 hour period, really pleased your lad is doing well.

Welcome :)

None of my children have diabetes, but if they did, I'd be keen for them to have a pump (I have one). The ability to fine tune the basal to match your body's needs, and avoid nocturnal hypos is the best thing about it, in my opinion.

My other diabetes 'must have/do' is carb counting.

It sounds like you're doing well for your son :) Ask any questions you want. There are plenty of great people here who can give support.
