Newly diagnosed type 2 ..cut all sugar apart from eating fruits. Feeling absolutely shattered is this normal
Many thanks

Keep at it and your body will adjust soon. Which fruits are you eating? Some are not suitable for us.

I have to avoid bananas now, far too many carbs. I mostly have a few raspberries or other berries, or rhubarb (I know, it is really a vegetable but I make a fake crumble with it).
Cutting carbs made me very tired at first - see 'keto flu', but it settles down.

The berries and yoghurt are ideal for most of us. Testing will define if they are okay for you.

Bananas and watermelon, sadly, are very sugary, so perhaps better to give these a swerve until you are consistently happy with your bloods. Good luck!

hi, if you haven’t automatically been given a blood glucose monitor, ask your diabetic nurse if you can have one and say you’d like to know what spikes your blood glucose so you can control it. I’ve realised if you use certain ‘buzz’ words they’re sympathetic to your cause. Otherwise I’d advise to buy one. I can’t eat bananas either but berries and full fat and Greek yogurt are great.

I've bought one ..not waiting for NHS to sort it ..thanks for advice..I'm testing myself ..I'm a retired nurse .but have no faith in NHS I'm afraid I'll sort myself out
I've bough diabetic recipe books and joined this forum which has given me more beneficial information than any Dr or Nurse sadly..
I excercise regularly anyway I'm in good shape ..so carrying on with that ..thanks fir valuable advice x

If you’ve cut out all sugars (what about the other carbs?) it’s common to have a kind of “withdrawal”. Best advice is not to try and cut calories at the same time eat the good unprocessed proteins and fats so you aren’t actually hungry on top. Also carbs hold water and with less of them you’ll hold less water so might be dehydrated too. That knocks on to possibly needing more electrolytes and if they have dipped a bit low you can feel rubbish fast, but also improved quickly. Sodium, potassium and magnesium particularly.

Hi, could try mixing proteins with the banana, I eat more peanut butter now than I used to because of this. Just make sure it’s a sugar and added fat free version. Aldi by far the cheapest. The protein slows the digestion, you could try testing if it works for you.

There’s some info online about using food combinations to manage glycemic load, rather than just using glycemic index. You could also try adding 10g of dry raw oats on top of your yogurt and fruit. For a big boost try adding a teaspoon of Ceylon cinnamon as well, over a few weeks that’ll bring down your overall levels. Worked for me really quickly. Ceylon cinnamon is less bitter. That’s the breakfast I have everyday, I alter the fruit but it’s always berries.

Good luck
