I low carb but still need insulin when im in pain, ill or thyroid plays up. Oh and when I get loose tummy from metformin or side affects from heart meds. Insulin resistance problems since I was 5yr old but just gone on insulin after 40yrs of uncontrolled sugar and obesity problems. Ive fought but some wars arent always won. Luckily I can live another day to fight again.

Thanks Liam, I hope your progressing well with your problems.Well Done.
I was told the same Ann. I was on steroids and insulin when I joined a well known slimming club. My dn said I was wasting my time even trying to lose weight and sure enough I didn't! I'm not on steroids any more and have lost about a stone doing lchf. I think the problem with the slimming club was that you were encouraged to eat lots of carbs and low fat.I was only told not to bother trying to lose weight, that it was impossible for a diabetic on insulin.

I have to agree @Annb with @deb1960 . carbs hold the key to weight gain on insulin. Of course we have other ailments but if I can lose weight on insulin, anyone can. I have so many meds and conditions even endo was shocked about my 3.5st loss. I've crept on a few pound but looking to mimic jan'17 to start losing again. I'm desperate to lose. I've been confused to hell from bariatric eating advice as goes against what I was eating to lose weight, on my own.9
I was told the same thing. Being told this made me feel completely defeated so I just ate pretty much what I wanted. Fortunately after a few wasted years getting fatter I read the blood sugar diet book and decided to low carb. I have lost about a stone since 1st January this year and more than halved my insulin.
A mixed bag of huge positive results @Liam1955. All to your credit. Are you still using milk thistle complimentary treatment? And your weight loss must be very obvious. You aren't what I'd perceive to be an overweight person. You must be slight now? Most specialist like type2s not overweight. I'm finding.Just to update.
Had an Endoscopy on Monday 17th and still have the Gastritis and Duodenitis!!
Then yesterday Tuesday 18th saw the Liver Specialist and he is really pleased with my hard work (his words). My Fibroscan done yesterday was 6.7 = 2 years ago it was 10.7, 1 year ago it was 10.2.
My LFT Bloods - Gamma GT is down to 31 and ALT is down to 39. (I started a New Drug only last week and it is known to effect Liver Function)
My Cholesterol remains at 3.1.
Have only lost half a stone in weight - 12 stone 4 lbs but, I am sticking to the Low Fat Diet. My HBA1C is up to 72.
Ferritin level is 19 though and I am to have a Colonoscopy soon!
My Iron goes low now but I've put it down to taking lansoprozol tablets which can be a side affect. I eat beef once a week. I've ordered a meat platter from butchers for over Xmas though to give us all extra protein rather than excessive carbs.@ickihun - No, I stopped the Milk Thistle last November. I read an American article about them doing trials with Omega 3 Oil and Vitamin E. So I asked the Liver Specialist if I could try this - and he said it was OK. For the last 7 months been taking 1000mg Omega 3 Oil and 200iu of Vitamin E Capsule every day - I personally think it is taking these that has helped my Fatty Liver. I am really pleased that the Fibroscan reading was 6.7.
I have lost 2 inches in my waist, went out and bought 2 new pairs of Trousers to treat myself.
Having my Diabetic Review in January 2019 - and I know I am going to get a B*****king for allowing my HBA1C to go up to 72. But, eating low fat there is more sugar put in when fat is taken out. And I felt I needed to get my Liver sorted out which was/is No. 1 priority to me.
Hoping for cancelled appointment to have the Colonoscopy soon. I still have the Iron Deficiency Aneamia and have for nearly 5 years.
