Faulty sensor then next one fell off, what should I do?

Hi

Just under two weeks ago I finally got libre on prescription. After a few days I noticed the sensor was always reading 2 mmol/L more than blood tests. I contacted freestyle and they agreed to replace it.

I put a second sensor on and a few days later I noticed it was slightly loose at a small bit of the sensor edge. I put a bit of micropore tape on one side to protect it. This morning I woke up to find out the sensor had come off and was only held in place by the tape.

When I got the sensor I was told by my clinic that I should contact Freestyle if it comes off to get a replacement, but they would only so that a few times. I have gone through two sensors in just under 2 weeks I am worried about getting blacklisted if I ask for another sensor.

I think I with put a couple bits of tape on the next one to stop it coming off.

Has anyone with experience of dealing with Freestyle got any advice?

PsyCrow, I would be unconcerned about contacting Abbott. I have had several replacement sensors where they've gone wonky (and one fell off!) over a period.

Your sensors have failed for different reasons, so that is, in my view, in your favour.

Abbott may ask you about how you applied the sensor, where on your body etc., but that's all very standard procedure.

One thing I am always careful of is ensuring my skin is clean, and I don't apply body lotion to that area, on the day I appy the sensor. When I use the medi wipe beforehand, I always wait about 10 minutes afterwards to ensure my skin is properly dry before expecting the adhesive to grip.

Some people use additional tape to ensure their sensor stays in place for the duration, but usually mine is so well adhered, I'm prizing mine off when it expires.

I have had 12 sensors and none has fallen off. I ask my husband to attach mine as I find 2 hands are better than one in order to press the applicator down very hard. If your arms have hairs, it is best to exfoliate first. I don't have that problem, but people on this forum have advised this course of action.

Ok thanks for the information. I don't think my skin is the problem as when I went for a shower before putting on the new one the adhesive pad was still very firmly stuck to me. My wife suggested putting a tubigrip around it when in bed

The Libre sticks to me like a limpet.
Contact Abbotts, they will replace them. Keep the old ones to send back (they supply prepaid envelopes to do so) as they will look into why they fail/fall off. In the end that will help us with them.
Dont give up on them. For me they are super accurate

Abbott seem like good ambassadors of their products. Send back the faulty as they will be replaced. As for accuracy, mine have been within 0.2 m/mol of my fingerprinting tests. I have every confidence in them, after a year.
