Good evening another silly question from yours truly,I woke up this morning at 2am went down stairs to let my little dog out,not thinking I made a cup of tea and drunk half of it,realising that it might have an effect on my FBG first thing in the morning, would it have had a significant effect on my reading,Thank you:)

Good evening @Alison Campbell and thank you much appreciated, the reason I asked is because I usually get up about 2 am and would like to make a cup of tea every night, and then return to bed after about half an hour,in fact just how important is it to do the FBG test every morning:)

ps 6 hours sleep seems to suit me

The main thing is if you are looking for trends is to be consistent so that you are comparing like with like.

Most doctors do not use FBG anymore but as I have more problems with fasting than post meal sugars I find FBG valuable.

I often don't test in the morning. If I do my best throughout the day then am highish the next morning then there is little I can do about it. It just causes stress and demoralises me so why bother? Being a little high in the morning is reassuring in a way as it means my liver is stopping me from going too low in the night. That's a good thing.

My concern about your nocturnal cuppa would be that broken sleep and possibly caffeine and lactose in the middle of the night is a habit that may raise your bloody glucose. I don't know - my cat sleeps 18 hours a day so I don't need to wake up in the night :cat:

Wiseowl, you've been testing for a little while now, so you should have a decent set of data to refer to.

If you would like to have a cup of tea at 2am, the do so for, say a week, and see what happens to your fasting levels. As we say so often on here, how a particular thing impacts one person doesn't necessarily hold true for another.

My FBG is always my highest number of the day so I don't find it an important number s my HbA1c is always good. Follow AndBreathe's advice above and you should soon see if it is affecting your FBG. It might have a slight effect on your FBG but as long as it doesn't raise all your other readings throughout the day then it shouldn't be a problem.

Good evening @bulkbiker my friend because I love life so much and I cannot wait for each new Bonus of a day to come and also it makes my days longer;)

Thank you everyone for your most appreciated and friendly replies:)

Good morning @Jamesuk9 which deserves an answer I have always gone to bed at 10 pm and straight to sleep, started work when I was aged 14 and had to get up at 4 am until I retired early, a lot of years ,I suppose my body clock has adopted the habit,:)

I was taught that
"Early to bed
early to rise
makes an Owl
healthy wealthy
and wise";)

It's hard to break the habit of early rising especially if you've worked shifts most of your life,I started work at 15 and worked bl--by hard ever since until I was 64, last 15 years for guess who NHS in surgical.
