Good morning 4 months in and I am still a little confused, how important are FBG readings as this morning and what are the reasons for taking them, I took 3 readings at 5 minute intervals, I got up washed and dried my hands felt good, fist reading was 4.8 second reading was 52 third reading was 4.7 ,is there any need to do these FBG tests ,I can fully understand the need to test before and after meals which I still do to see how different food affects my blood sugar, then I know just what is best for me,I was OK with just taking the one test, but accidentally spoilt a test strip hence repeated the test with a new one.Thank you:)

Good morning Wiseowl. As you are consistently getting fasting levels in the 4's I don't see any reason to continue that form of testing regularly. Perhaps a couple of times a week would suffice to make sure it is still on track?

Wow. Well done.

Dropping 10 kg and getting the HbA1c down are probably related. I managed something similar (but FBG not so low) and I'm now off the metformin. It might be worth discussing this with your doctor/diabetic nurse.

Personally, I would skip the FBG measurements unless you just want to keep an eye on things.

Good morning @fbirder and @miahara my friends and thank you for your replies :)

I have with doctors consent cut down to just one Metformin tablet each day instead of two.but I have noticed that my FBG instead of reading in the 4's it has risen to consistently in the 5's

I shall take on board your advice and start tomorrow:).
