Fed up, feeling rubbish

Hiya, Diagnosed with type 2 01/04 this year. Got the levels down with Metformin and Glypizide.
Body rejected Metformin tabs twice a day, so GP put me on slow release 1 tab daily.
All fine levels between 5 and 9, except feeling tired and bloated and flatulance in abundance every evening after taking the medication.

Last Monday felt rubbish-took my glucose level-26.5
Contacted GP who prescribed Glipizide in addition to slow release Metformin, but levels still high 11 to 22.
Tired, grumpy and thirsty, fed up going to pee!

Seeing GP Friday morning,a few questions or help

1/ Can your body reject Metformin or get used to the drug rendering it useless-I havn't changed my diet?
2/ Terrified he puts me on Insulin, is there a weight neutral oral I could get?
3/ Think I;ll just stop eating altogether-that may help. I'm very overweight and insulin resistant

Any thoughts or help greatly received as I feel rubbish and fed up

Brian

I think you need to change your diet. Drugs alone can't fix this for you. Some of us have found that diet alone can bring blood glucose levels down to 'normal' readings..

My own thoughts are that you should read the link below and try it for yourself. Of course you may find that if this works for you then you may need to reduce the amount of drugs you take. My GP will no longer prescribe metformin for me as my last HbA1c was 42.

This has also helped me lose 38 pounds so far.

HI Brian,
Sorry to hear you're feeling rotten.
Are you saying that you haven't changed your diet or that your increase in glucose levels isn't because you have changed your diet?
(Sorry to misunderstand)
I am also very overweight - I need to lose at least 5 stone and have lost 2 already, so I can understand what you mean about eating!

Hi Zand,
Is this a new edition of a HFLC diet? I'm looking for a decent book to help me with this.
Thanks,
BeeGee

Well the good news is neither of you need to stop eating. Just eat lots of the right things. :)

I don't honestly believe you need a book You can learn all you need from the low carb section of this forum. The link I quoted is a compilation of posts from people who frequented this forum, (past and present members) Just have a read and ask any questions you may have. :)

Hiya guys,
My glucose level raised without changing my normal diet-my levels have been between 5 and 9 for months
I have a read of the link
I need to lose at least 20stone,I'm 6ft 4inch tall and 34.5 stone-i've lost five stone twice in the past on very low carb diet and on low carb high protein diet-but put it all back on and more before diabetes hit.
Think I;ll ask for a gastric band or bypass as this is no life just an existance.

Were you eating enough fat do you think? I have found that if I eat less carbs and more fat I lose weight, slowly. At the start I needed to lose 8-10 stones. I try to keep my BG levels below 7.8 after meals. Many of us here do low carb, moderate protein and enough fat. It took me a long time to realise I was still eating too many carbs and not having enough fat.

Hi Obeaston,
Sorry you've put on your weight again.
It is very difficult isn't it.
I lost over 100lb many years ago and had put most of it back on.
It takes a lot of will power and determination to even make a start, doesn't it?
Despite being overweight I find it very hard to actually lose weight... partly down to my lack of self discipline (I give in to my cravings too easily, especially when on my own) and partly because the heavier I have been, the harder I have found it to do any exercise.
Are you still using the High Fat, Low Carb eating plan?
