Diabetes can affect the nerves (diabetic neuropathy), which could result in rapid gastric (stomach) emptying. They are investigations for that but they do not involve colonoscopy.

When diabetes affects intestinal motility, bacteria can overgrow in the small intestine and could cause diarrhea and bloating. In this case avoiding sugars (fructose from fruits, lactose from milk) could help.

Metformin was / is my nemesis.
Worked up to 2 x2 tablets very slowly but after about three weeks on full dosage I have had to reverse to 3 daily and then back to 2 daily.
The nurse doesn't seem too worried by this as my glucose levels have gone from 31 to somewhere between 8.5 and 12 on average.
However, as you can see, these are still far too high and I am planning to ask to try slow release metformin at my three month check up next week.
Hope the advice from others has helped.
