BG this morning 5. Breakfast 1 shredded wheat, lactose free milk and a cup of tea, 2 hours later BG 10. Don't know how to stop the spiking. Yesterday morning 5.4 then fish (removed batter) mushy peas and 4 chips 2 hours later 11.5. What am I doing wrong?

Have a look at Carbs and Cals - it is a great book on showing where those carbs are hiding!
There will be some in the Shredded Wheat, the mushy peas and the chips.
did you have any other drinks or snacks?

Do you need to lose weight? can you exercise more?

It is the overall picture you need to look at and see if your results come down over a few weeks

I'm on gliclazide 1 tab twice a day and Victoza 1.2. Yes, I am overweight and do need to excersise more. I don't eat bread, stopped eating potatoes, chocolate, crisps and cakes. I like fruit and plkain youghurt. I've lost over a stone in 6 weeks. I just feel as if there is nothing I can eat at the moment that won't cause a spikje. Will test before lunch and after to see how it goes. Thanks for your support.

If you can get out and have a walk after a meal that may help, it seems like an old fashioned idea but it can work.

Post some of your typical meals and people with chip in with a few ideas on how you can make them more diabetic friendly.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things - well done on the weight loss, that's a huge achievement in 6 weeks. Walking is great for lowering post meal spikes, but if the weather is like it is here in Devon - perhaps try going up and downstairs a few times!! Keep going - you are doing great.

Sorry Julie stairs are not an option, I live in a bungalow☺. I have ordered the carbs and cals book today. My sugars have gone down from what they were, I just feel as if I'm not getting anywhere at the moment. I've had an almost constant tingling in my hand, could be linked to playing a game on my tablet.

I'd definitely give up the shredded wheat. Who likes to eat cardboard anyway? It is full of carbs.

I had tingling in my hand too. It was googling the symptoms that brought me here.

When I started to low carb the tingling went away with a few weeks. Over December I had Christmas, Anniversary and birthdays and as I had done so well . I stopped being so good. Gained a stone back of the weight I lost and the tingling came back.

Wheat, milk and starchy veg like peas spike me too. Today I had cheese omelette for breakfast, bg was 5.1 before and 4.7 after.

Please don't despair it does take time for things to settle and you have made a tremendous start - you will learn more as time goes on as to what works for you and there's plenty of people here who will be able to give you lots of ideas.

Thanks Julie. I've been T2 for 18 years but only in the past 8 weeks have I started taking it seriously. I have learnt more from people on this sight than I have in the past 18 years.

Low carb QUICK breakfast solutions please
Cheese omelette, like Totto says, is a good option. I have it most mornings and it doesn't take long to make and eat.

This morning I had eggs scrambled with cottage cheese in the microwave. Even quicker.

How about Greek yogurt with berries and walnuts?

I didn't realise that you have had t2 for so long, but it's good you are starting to tackle it now. This is a great site for seeking help and encouragement, I know I still don't quite believe that I have diabetes - it does seem a bit unreal at times but I'm going to do my darndest to not let it get the better of me. At least we are not alone on here and can help each other when we are struggling.

I'd agree with the others.

A quick look on myfitnesspal suggests - obviously guessing portion size - that your mushy peas would be around 20gr of carb.

Also, the pedant in me asks, have you actually given up potatoes (as you had a few chips), or sort of given them up?

I have mushy peas from the chip shop. 11 carbs per 80g portion.

Happier now. Before lunch 5 after lunch (4 hovis biscuits with cheese, cup of tea) 6.4.
