Feeling abandoned

I know the NHS has limited funds so I have some sympathy that they might like to do more and can’t, but I feel the same way.

I was told by a specialist consultant in A&E that I had type 1, started on insulin, told I would need to see a dietician to learn about carb counting. Then I saw my local diabetes consultant who said it could be type 2 and did blood tests, appointment with a dietician “if I wanted” and come back to see the nurse in 6 months, off you go.

I never even got the results of the tests, so I still don’t know if I’m officially down as type 1 or 2 (but I know the tests aren’t conclusive so I’m letting it go for now)

They had me on set insulin doses and I was getting highs and lows all over the place so I found (via here) an online course on carb counting and educated myself that way. I’m now carb counting and mostly stable, or at least I know when I’m not that I made a mistake. But, yes one appointment following type 1 diagnosis then come back in 6 months (and to see a nurse, not consultant) doesn’t seem good enough to me.

It’s not really good enough LornaFarrell is it? It’s a difficult time and all we need is answers and a bit of support. Thank goodness for the members on this forum.
