Hi everyone

hope all is well,

so as of friday i'm now upto x2 of the metformin tablet, i must say that i have had to give myself a checkin an really tell myself off
so since mid jan

i decided to stop having alcohol - i think what's the point it only damaged my body that i'm trying to keep in check and also it helps save money as well, not only that but have decided to give up crisps but not limited to nuts for snacking and only to have a sweet i.e desert for when i go out for meal.

its difficult especially when going down the chocolate section in asda lol

i've started to try and drink more water so 1 pint of water when i wake up, 1 when i come home for lunch , 1 when i get in from work and 1 before i go to bed.

and i must admit that i do feel better for it, but don't get me wrong i do struggle but i think somewhere along the line i think you have to draw that line.

and today i've decided not to have fast food...which brings me onto my reasoning

so...i had my telephone call with my doctor today and hes telling me that my kidneys are leaking protein...and he wanted to know what my blood pressure is as he thinks that my blood pressure is to high....(now the thing is it took me along time to get on
metformin)....and now hes asking me to take another tablet!!! to lower my blood pressure as he thinks thats my i'm losing protein

the last reading are (took 3 )

121/93
121/89
129/84

and in the next breath hes saying that these tablets that lower my BP can damage my kidneys in the short term but in the long term would be beneficial!

i mean come on doc !

btw my hba1c was 76

so i said i would think about...i just don't know i was 16 stone and i weighed myself this morning and i'm now down to 14st

thank you for reading this any advice would be great

my albumuin/creatinine ratio = 28.8 mg/mmol [<2.5]
GFR calculated abbreviated > 60 mL/min1.73m2
eGFR CKD-EPI = 83 mL/min/1.73m2

Hi @kevsta
Blood pressure like Blood Glucose tends to rise with Stress. So getting stressed is likely to make both of those worse.
On the positive side your BP figures don't look bad enough (to this ordinary person) to be considering medication when it's highly likely that both losing weight and a Lower carb diet will bring down both any raised BP as well as they do for raised BG.
In fact that is exactly the unexpected side effect of a Low Crab way of eating that Dr David Unwin (author of the first UK low carb study in diabetics) found in himself when he went Low Carb along with his Type 2 Patients, such that both he and they had to either reduce the BP medication or to come off it completely because he was feeling faint when he got up from his desk to greet them.

Hi @ianf0ster

Thanks much appreciate, I think I’m just under sure why the doc thought I needed to take more medication when I’ve just recently gone onto met forming

But also been trying to do some research and I think the next step is I need to move more

Also been reading bits from this

https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/kidney-disease/high-blood-pressure

I feel like I don’t eat a lot of carbs especially now not eating crisps and other **** lol but obviously there are still things that has carbs in

Still along way to go but and thanks for the input
